I've heard that JJ stock is rising and that he could wind up being drafted higher than Ko. I heard (admittedly second-hand knowledge) that JJ ran a 4.29 in the 40 before some scouts and he is projected as a late first or early second rounder. Wouldn't it be sweet if Ko and JJ both went in the first round? That would have to help recruiting. ;)

That would be crazy if he was drafted higher. I guess he made the right choice after all. I wish we would've gotten more than one year out of him but such is life, I wish him the best. If they do both go in the first round that would make 3 first round DB's in 3 years!!

I think Ko will be lucky to go in the 2nd round and JJ lucky to go in the 3rd or 4th round. Ko has the upper hand because he has put up some good numbers. All JJ has going for him is speed. I just don't think that coaches or owners are willing to gamble that much on someone with limited experience. Ko has 2 years experience and JJ has 1. Imo it'll take JJ a few years to become starter material at best. I don't think owners are willing to waste a first round pick on a DB riding the pine for a few years.
I wish them both the best but I would be very surprised to see them go high in the draft. Again jmo.

Despite ESPN's viewpoint, Mel Kiper is not god. That being said, he usually has a decent idea on how things are going to unfold, and he sees Ko as a late first rounder. So I'd be surprised if Ko was still around in the middle to late 2nd round. I have no idea what's going on with JJ, so for now I'll take these accounts as accurate that he ran a 4.29.
Wasn't Fabian Washington a no-name in the draft until he ran a sub-4.30 forty yard dash? I could be wrong about that, but I think it's accurate. While Fabian hasn't been that great, he's an example that teams will gamble on a guy with crazy speed, so it's quite possible JJ jumps up to the 2nd or shockinly late 1st round if he really is running that fast now.
It should also be noted that it is Feb. 11th. A WHOLE LOT can and will change in the draft between now and that Saturday, April afternoon.

Kiper is really only good with the top 10 or 15 picks. Anything after that he falls apart fast.

for specific picks i agree, but for general area a guy is going to get drafted he's usually fairly reliable. if he says ko is going to be drafted in the 1st round the week before the draft, it's highly unlikely ko would drop to the late 2nd. the exception being when he thinks Team A will pick a guy late in the first round solely to fill a need, but when they decide to pass on him no one else takes the guy cause they don't need help at his position.
aaron rodgers for instance....yeah a lot of teams were skeptical about him as a franchise QB, but if more teams in the 10-25 had needed a QB he wouldn't have fallen to the Packers like he did. it's not that kiper is some great prognosticator....he's just talking to all the GMs and all the scouts for each team to see what they're thinking and what they are after.

I'm not sure about Fabian, but Dunta Robinson was projected as a 3rd or 4th rounder until he wowed the scouts with his speed. He wound up being drafted number 8.

That's true. Dunta was a pleasant surprise being drafted so high and proved to be a worthy pick as well. And like Omaha said it'll depend on who needs what.

I think that was something that was said all along that JJ could be a better pro than KO simply because of his speed. You can learn a lot of things, speed ain't one of them.

I have to agree with you on this one. Neither one is all that.

GT, for once I think I disagree with you. This must be a first. But Ko is ALL that. He is an impressive specimen and one that any team will want. Whether or not they need him first round or not is still to be seen. But KO is a gifted athlete with a nose for the football, great football sense (remember how many times he led QBs on to believe that he was beat only to close after the ball was thrown to break it up or intercept it), and he is fearless (he lead the team in tackles and many were OPEN field tackles!!!). So this time I think I have to disagree, but otherwise me and you are normally on the same page. But I am sure you have your reasons and I would be interested in hearing them.

I remember the Georgia game with his at least 3 missed interceptions that could have all but sealed the game for us. Actually, I cannot count how many interceptions he dropped this year. Yes he can hit and yes he can tackle, but to play DB in the NFL and have interest from anyone you have to catch those easy balls. He was much worse in that regard this past year than in 2004 IMO.

Well, I agree that he seemed to have a problem intercepting the ball this year. That is impossible to argue. But I guess my point is that he was there. He was in position to make the play and did to a degree because he broke the pass up, he just didn't intercept it. But if he had intercepted those balls he is looking at an easy first round. But I hope for his sake that the pro scouts lean more my direction then yours otherwise his bottom line will suffer.

See, we are not that far off!! :p I did notice times when Ko would let interceptions pass right through his hands.

Well hopefully they will overlook the droppsies! It can only help our recruiting to have a top round pick 3 years running.

I'll bet Carlos Thomas doesn't drop those when given the opportunity. ;) I know he's probably going to play CB instead of safety but I wish opposing teams the best of luck if they ever try to throw a jump ball-type route on his side of the field.
I think both Ko and JJ will do fine...but you'll never be able to convince me that both of them wouldn't have benefitted greatly from one more year at the college level.

I believe totally both would have benefitted from another season in the college ranks. Joesph probably more so then Ko. But then again if I could paid like that who knows what I would do.

Carlos has very good hands. He should do really well on the defensive side of the ball. He now has an entire year of SEC ball under his belt. From what I have been reading in interviews with our 2006 recruits, Spurrier plans to build this team around HIS players. I was reading an interesting story on Gamecockcentral this morning. It talked about how Spurrier is changing so many things at Carolina, and how he never stops. It talked about his great disdain for losing, and that this year you will see him put both the team and individual players down to the media when they do not perform, and how he does not mind doing that one bit. He said in a press conference the other day that ALL positions are open in the spring, and even mentioned Rice personally. He made it clear his position would be open as well if he does not secure it. Whether you love or hate this man, you have to love what he stands for. Winning, abiding by the rules, and being the best you can be. Lastly, yes, Ko and JJ would have CERTAINLY benefited from another year at Carolina. They have nowhere near reached their potential IMO. Reggie Bush, yes. He is just a natural born football player. He can leave early without much negative happening to him. Ko and JJ, I am still not convinced of that at all.

That is an interesting note about Spurrier getting mad over last year. I like that. It shows he isn't going to settle for less. I let my subscription to Gamecockcentral run out so I don't have that anymore. I miss it already. But it is too expensive for someone like me.
