With the referral of Iran to the Security Council over its nuclear pronouncements, guess which Nation assumes the Chairmanship this session????
Denmark!
Now given all this hoopla and uproar over the cartoons, which way do you think the Danish contingent will be instructed to steer the expected rebuke and/or move to sanction the Iranians???
The Danes' domestic businesses have taken a tremendous financial beating as muslamic consumers have ceased buying their goods and contracts for development and future/ongoing projects have been suspended in nearly all of the muslamic Countries, with no near term prospect of subsiding. I wonder whether or not the overriding need to repair their standing in the muslamic world will come at the expense of its duty to oversee the addressing of Iran's bombastic refusal to play nice.

I doubt it. They will probably be more determined than ever. That cartoon stuff is just stupid.

The Chairmanship/Presidency on the Security Council is rotated between the members in alphabetical order for a period of one calender month. Though required by the UN Charter to meet at least twice a year, the Security Council can be called into session upon the request of any SC member or under one of the several provisions for UN member Nations to request it, as is the case in this deal with Iran.
This will be very interesting....

Well, now it makes more sense as to why Iran and Syria would try to fuel the flames of the cartoon protesters. I wonder how Denmark is gonna respond....

:D Maybe you're thinking of Germany..
I was impressed by the fact that they continued to allow cartoons to be published even after the protests started. Thats more than I can say for some of the news channels in America(cough CNN cough). Hopefully they will see the Iran provacation of the cartoon situation as a sign that this country wants to harm them and that they will do everything they can to get to the root of the problem before it gets out of control. With boycotts being waged against Denmark from many groups AND the fact the fact that Iran is the 2nd leading producer of oil it may put a lot of financial pressure on Denamark. Hopefully they will be able to think past this and stand strong in their rights.

For some, it doesn't take much to persuade them to show their ignorance

Truth is hippo boy that the pressure that Denmark will be getting from the west will be far greater than the pressure provided by a few Arabs not buying cheese and beer. Like I said I seriously doubt it. And if that doesn't work they will probably throw money at them like they do for everyone else. :D If you can't handle the briefness of my posts don't read them.

My post kitty man was in reference to the extremist muslims that use any reason to start a jihad, or start to tear up stuff, etc., etc. Maybe I should have stated my position more clearly, or maybe you should've asked me what I meant before you posted your reply.

Eheh GT, our 'boy' Bolton is precisely the kind of guy the UN needs more of. Over the decades, the organization has become all too paralyzed by the incessant and ridiculous need to more highly value pomp & circumstance over frank and direct engagement. When you fuss with your bosslady, do you frame your disagreement with "honey", "my dear", or "baby" "but I", thinking that showing her respect will get her to see your side of whatever it is???? Same deal, two opposing takes and no amount of nicety will soften either side. Bolton brings that ability to slice through that and get to the flippin point, eliminating all the pompous posturing so that it is crystal clear what both sides have to resolve to find compromise or to simply agree to disagree.
(Sidenote on why I'm so interested in this deal with the Danes...)
I introduced the Danish economic concerns simply because they've managed to walk that tighrope in developing a substantial amount of trade with the muslim nations, which is no simple task whatsoever. A dear and very close family friend created an enormous company which originally was dedicated soley to providing its engineering expertice for the modernization of Saudi Arabia some 45 years ago. Within 5 years, the need to provide items for the thousands of foreign non-arab/non-islamic workforce became a necessity as the Saudis had become very irritated and increasingly severe in punishing the rampant smuggling and black market trade in forbidden goods. He managed to sway the ruling family into creating exclusion zones for his workers where they could safely and legally enjoy their stuff from home and in the process formed a company to legally import both those goods and items, as well as introducing religious/culturally acceptable goods for Saudi consumers. A large percentage of his management and technical staff was of Scandanvian origin, particularly Danish and it was to a Danish concern which he eventually sold his trade business to back in the mid-90's as he sought retirement. He lives in Dubai today like a blooming King.
