Co-Defensive Coordinator John Thompson will not return. This was all expected. He is in buyout negotiations with the University.

I don't think Nix is much of an improvement on Thompson, both defenses gave up waaay to many points and the 3rd down conversion was terrible.

Nix did great IMO, except in the last two games.

Seeyalaterbyebye Thompson. I have to admit, I liked the idea of our D moving around before the snap & mixing up blitzes to confuse the opponent's offense but I never imagined the entire defensive line would be included in the pre-snap movements and (what the hello are they DOING?!) standing up before the play started!
Hindsight is always 20/20 but it was clear from the outset that you cannot have your defensive line stand there and expect to get anything done but allow the other team 5+ yards before first contact.

I think our defense lack of tackling form/ability is what was our downfall. Many times they just hit/nailed the guy and expected him to fall to the ground, when many of them just kept going. This was a constant problem and one that needs to be fixed pronto!

I think with all the losses on D next year it's out biggest question mark. We're losing our two best defensive backs, all our starting linebackers, and a number of our starters on the d-line. If you thought we were weak this past year just wait. It could be a long season.
Now I know Nix will kick these guys butts left and right. We also have some jucos coming in that will fight for playing time. We may have a long way to go before our defense plays the way we're use to seeing them play.

I don't want to defend the stand up defensive attack because the results speak for themselves. However, I don't second guess the coaches for doing it. At the beginning of the season, I think it was clear we didn't have the talent to play with the big boys and this was all they could do to level the field. It worked pretty well with UGA but coaches figured it out quickly.

The stand up thing worked before, so you can't blame them for trying it again. Kinda like the moniker, if it ain't broked don't fix it. Well, it turned out to be broke and they fixed it. Neither really impressed me with their defense. I thought Rick Minter's was better overall.

I think our defense may just surprise some of you next year.
