The Christmas recruiting haul was not done late last week when LSU head coach Les Miles received commitments from three top prospects as there was a fourth pledge that arrived before Christmas eve.
Rivals100 linebacker Derrick Odom of Callaway High in Jackson, Mississippi called Miles on Friday to let him know his decision was made up.
"I already knew where I wanted to go so I did it," Odom said. "He (Miles) was excited."
How long has Odom known that LSU was where he wanted to spend the next four or five years?
"Ever since I came down for the camp this summer," Odom said.
The 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker is considered to be one of the top five prospects overall in the state of Mississippi for the 2006 recruiting year. He was recruited to LSU by tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator Josh Henson.
Distance from Jackson to Baton Rouge was certainly a factor for Odom as his family has a drive of only a few hours to see him play.
The Mississippi product committed to LSU over offers from Ole Miss, Alabama, Tennessee, Southern Mississippi and others.
Odom projects as a full academic qualifier as he has scored a 17 on the ACT and he claims a grade point average of 2.6.
