Coach suspends Missouri football captain for bowl game after drug arrest
(Columbia, Missouri-AP) Dec. 20, 2005 - Missouri football captain Jason Simpson will miss the Independence Bowl game against South Carolina after a weekend arrest for marijuana possession.
Simpson has been suspended by Coach Gary Pinkel. The senior is a safety and the team's second-leading tackler this season.
The suspension means Simpson will not play nor travel to the school's December 30th Independence Bowl game against the Gamecocks in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Simpson was not at practice Tuesday.
Columbia, Missouri police say he was arrested between 7:00am Sunday and 7:00am Monday and charged with possessing drug paraphernalia and less than 35 grams of marijuana.
Simpson had 88 tackles in Missouri's 6 and 5 regular season. He is from The Woodlands, Texas, near Houston.
