I understand this is a longshot but I think it is interesting to read. This is a post from a Rivals forum.
"I have a good friend who is a student asst at Bama and told me Mark Sanchez is shopping around to leave SoCal. With JD Booty there and early rumors that Jimmy Clausen is coming, he's thinking of heading to the SEC. He's basically said it's Bama and had a quiet visit there over Thanksgiving weekend, but Shula has kept it quiet and that's why they passed on Smelley. They kept it very quiet to keep Tebow in the works, but now they'll be OK signing Chandler (Opelika-AL and Troy commit) as a backup and letting JP Wilson play one year and have Sanchez for 2007-8-9 since he can redshirt in 06. The only other possibility was Tennessee, but he liked Sanders and is pis*ed that Fat Phil got rid of him. He is good friends with the Clausen family b/c of the connection to Coach Johnson and the Elite 11 camp and didn't like the way Phil jacked Rick around this season."
.......
"Doubt me if you will, but remember the relationship Shula has with Rob Johnson and his dad from the NFL days. That relationship has to pay off at some point and Coach Johnson was Sanchez's HS coach. Sanchez was MVP of the Elite 11 (Johnson's camp) a couple years ago...so who do you think he would listen to?"
This is all speculation of course but this would be HUGE for the Bama program.
Mark Sanchez was ranked number 7 in the nation and the number 1 Pro-Style QB in the nation (Bama's offense!).

Interesting. But with all the hoopla surrounding Tebow's recruitment (ESPN-News, the documentary, all the talk on the national boards, etc.), I can't see how Shula was able to keep it quiet.
The transfer makes sense, though.....Caroll can't keep stockpiling QBs for years and expect them all to hang around for two to three years before they see the field.

That is good news if it is true, also rivals has us in the hunt for Mustain so you never know.

It does make sense, and if there is truly a relationship/connection between the Shula faction and Sanchez's HS coaches, the possibility of there being some substance here grows. It would be the greatest thing for Bama since Kenny the Snake's days.

I think I'll reserve judgement until 2010.

Quite frankly, the talk out here is whether or not JD Booty will actually be the starter next year. Sanchez has apparently outplayed him on the scout teams.
Also, think about the timing. If he transfers, he will have to sit out a year and he has already taken a redshirt year. So, he would not be able to play until 2007. There is a better than even chance that he will get some play in 2008 anyway at USC.
The other thing to think about is this, the Johnsons may have a connection with Shula, but USC and UCLA are really the bread and butter programs for their players. If they start greasing the wheels for current players to jump ship, they stand to lose a lot more down the road.
Perhaps it will happen, but I don't see it. I'll check around. I know a couple of Mark's neighbors, I only live about 5 miles from Mission Viejo.

I was wondering when you were going to speak up about this! Yeah I don't see it happening but I just thought it was an interesting article. See if you can find anything out about this.

It seems that Mitch Mustain's interest in the Tide is picking up more and more while this, I believe, is just a rumor.
If we do sign a QB this class, I believe it will be Mustain (seeing as how according to Rivals Radio we're #2 on this list now and #1 is Notre Dame already has two QB's in their class).

Yeah, I think we know where Mustain's going to play. As a matter of fact, he may be in 2 schools since this conversation took place.

I wanna tell you my secret now. I read dead threads. I read them all the time. They don't see each other. They only say what they want to say. They don't know they're dead...............
