We are beginning to hear rumors that TT is flirting with moving into Houston if Don Capers gets canned. The local Fox affiliate has said that Tuberville would leave either this year or next year depending on what McNair did with Capers and Casserly. Apparently, Dan Reeves is going to be a consultant for the remainder of the season, which doesn't look good for Capers. The story line goes that Reeves would slip into the GM's job for a few years, until TT gets the hang of the NFL and then he would retire to a loftier front office position making TT coach and GM.

Have you Tigers/War Eagles/Plainsmen heard this rumor?

Rebel,
If you wanted a reply by a barner you should have posted on the Bama forum. That is where they hang out! :D RTR

You are absolutely right. There really isn't a need for an Auburn forum on this board is there?

Man Bob Mcnair(he's a Gamecock, so is Dan Reeves) would be stupid to hire Tuberville, because it's all Al Borges down on the plains!!!

I think that would be a mistake. Not many college coaches do very well in the NFL, and I think that would hold true for Tuberville. He just doesn't strike me as an NFL coach.

They just hired Dan Reeves as a consultant. I think Reeves might end up being the coach in Houston.

If I was the Texans I would go after Pete Carrol or Charlie Weis, with the promise of Reggie Bush. There not that bad really they just quit on Capers, they could make the playoffs in 2-3 years.

it is a rumor and nothing more. haven't heard much about myself though, and i visit a lot of auburn boards, so it can't be that serious. tuberville has a huge buyout clause in the contract that he signed last year that he would have to pay. i'm pretty sure he's happy in auburn.

If I were an Auburn fan, I wouldn't be worried about Tuberville leaving. I believe I read somewhere that the only way he'd leave Auburn is in a pine box. ;)

Yeah. Ole Miss still has the pine box he left here. He took off in the middle of the night, so I guess he just overlooked it in the dark.

I agree he likely won't be leaving... but i do think a buyout clause wouldn't stop him if he did desire to leave for whatever reason. AFAIK, the team hiring a coach will generally payout a signing bonus to the new coach that will be approx the same amount as his buyout in the current contract.

looked it up and the buyout clause for this season and the next is 7 million dollars, then progressively drops to 2 million in 2011. That's a lot of money for the Texans to pay.

not to mention they would have to pay him over 2.5 million a year

Yeah, like I said its unlikely.... but teams have paid large buyouts before. That's a pretty stiff buyout clause for a college coaching contract though. :)

I have to agree there is no way that much money will be used to get him out of Auburn. Would hate to see him go anyways and yes Al has taken care of Auburn big time as well. That is the one that I am worried about leaving any time soon.
