I just don't think I've read anything more accurate during my short tenure on this board. I forgot it was just last year we were inundated with the "academic standards" BS.
I'm sick of the "Notre Dame backlash" backlash. I'm sure Weiss is a great guy, but if they lose the next 20 games, I wouldn't care. I'll be spending the rest of the bowl season saying things like, "It should be Auburn vs Ohio State" and "Notre Dame would never last in the SEC".

I agree though I'd add an arrow going from 'Complain that academic standards are too harsh" to "Cry Like Babies" cuz that's what they did from the moment Ty Willingham left to the day Charlie Weis expressed interest. I haven't heard that argument used since...I wonder why? Probably cuz their upperclassmen (AKA Willingham's recruits) are the ones leading the charge to their Fiesta Bowl berth this year even though their defense routinely stunk up the joint.
I won't knock Charlie Weis cuz I think he is a great coach but it'll be interesting to see how well the Irish does when Brady Quinn (JR-could leave early), Jeff Samardzja (see Quinn), Anthony Fasano (SR.), Maurice Stovall (SR.), & their entire offensive line (starters all SR, only two of 2nd string OL returning ) leave South Bend. Their starting kicker and FB were seniors this year too. I've no doubt they'll bring in more talent to replace what's leaving but what I'm going to watch is how long it takes Weis to bring that talent up to the level the current players are playing at. And that defense needs some serious work....Michigan State hung 48(?) points on them, for cryin' out loud. What's up with THAT?

No doubt. Look at their schedule and point out a good defense. I dare you.

Maybe something like this....
2002 10-3 .769
2003 5-7 .417
2004 6-5 .545
This, of course is Ty Willingham's tenure at ND. At best, he will be able to match TW's number of wins, but I am counting on OSU to be sure that the "Savior" of ND football has a worse winning percentage than the guy that was their before him.

Yeah, but good defenses attached to anemic offenses give up points...ask Patrick Willis.

You're right, of course. But losing Allen three(?) weeks before really hurt too. I still think the outcome of the UT/USC game could have been very different had he been there to stop all those quick slants across the middle we used to keep drives going late in the game. I was in a bit of a stupor (think I hit my head..?) for the ND/UT game but I think I remember the Irish doing that same thing more than a couple times too.
But you also bring up a good point too...UT's offense actually looked pretty decent for three quarters of that game before they, as a team & helped greatly by Ainge, imploded in the 4th quarter. How many times did UT's offense look pretty decent this past year?
'
Sorry fernandomike, you made me go there. ;) People see 41-21....most will forget (as I did, had to go look it up LOL) that that game was tied at the end of three quarters.

You guys are telling me that if you were in Notre Dame's position you would turn down a BCS bowl and 14 million dollars because you lost 2 games and some people don't think you deserve it. Notre Dame probably isn't as good as they have been touted this year. However, They always fill seats and get ratings. Money, my friends is the name of the game.

I don't blame Notre Dame at all, no one can fault them for taking bid (which they no doubt campaigned for), but it's the media's unnataural love affair with them. The very first explanation we get for them being ranked so high is "they almost beat USC". Why don't we spend more time on the loss to Michigan State? AT HOME!! Spartans ended up with a losing record.
"Oh, well they are playing better now....."
Yeah? well so is Auburn. If Ty was still coaching the Domers right now and they had the same record, do you think this would even be an issue?
