At this time of the year there are always a lot of rumors circulating and this year is no exception. There have been rumors circulating that LSU's Coach Les Miles would be interested in talking to Colorado officials if the Colorado job becomes open. Coach Barnett is feeling some heat from Colorado boosters after losing to Texas 70-3 in the Big 12 championship game. Colorado finished the season with a 7-4 record including a 32-3 loss to LSU's Peach Bowl opponent, Miami, 23-3. I do not believe anything will come of the rumor. Another hot rumor coming out of Baton Rouge is that as many as four LSU assistant coaches might be leaving by the first of the year. I do believe there will be a few changes, but I doubt there will be four coaches who leave.
It is not uncommon to see a few turnovers after the first season when a new head coach is hired at a major school like LSU. Nick Saban lost several coaches during his first three years at LSU. In fact, if my memory is correct, Saban replaced 11 coaches his first three years at LSU. Nick Saban was always able to replace coaches with better ones than he lost. I am not going to name any names of coaches who are rumored to be leaving until I hear it from the coaches' mouths. The biggest concern about rumors of coaches leaving is the affect such rumors will have on recruiting. The rumors of Nick Saban leaving his last two years at LSU cost LSU eight to 10 prospects, mostly offensive linemen and linebackers, and that is why the depth chart is thin in those areas. If there is any truth to the rumors, I wish these coaches would go ahead and leave, but I am sure they will wait until after the bowl season is over so they can collect their bonus for coaching in a bowl game this year.
