In a survey, Truckers say La. has worst interstate; Calif. has worst drivers
Louisiana has among the worst roads and the worst major interstate in the country. That's the gripe from truckers in an annual survey by Overdrive magazine, the No. 1 magazine for owner-operators of trucking businesses. Truckers say I-10 in Louisiana is the worst highway, followed by I-44 in Missouri and I-95 in New York. Funding for Louisiana roads has long lagged the nation, a reason for the sorry state of roads and highways.
Still, the state doesn't rank at the bottom. For the second consecutive year and the fifth time in a decade, truckers say Pennsylvania has the worst overall roads in the country. Texas was voted to have the best road, while I-75 in Florida was chosen best highway. Truckers said California has the worst automobile drivers, followed by Illinois and New York.

I have never been to Louisiana, but as far as roads go Alabama (Central) has got to be near the bottom. Not bashing the state that I now live in but comming from Conyers, GA to Pinson, AL, I have to say after almost being here 3 years I still complain about the roads here. You can be a passanger in the car with a blindfold on and I swear you can tell when you hit the Georgia state line on I-20.

Yeah. They say this because they don't get their way on the freeways out here like they do everywhere else. When you piss off people on the Cali Freeways, they don't flip you off, they frickin' shoot your a$$!

On the coast of SC we get about a million to 3 million tourists a year (between charleston and myrtle beach), I have found that drivers Ohio are the absolute worst, next would be Canadien drivers (specifically from Ontario) and then you can just insert any Yankee drivers next...

Never been to LA, but the Interstate and Highways in Arkansas used to be awful (about 10 years ago).
I just remember it feeling like I was riding over the trenches of Normandy in a Jeep the whole trip through that state.

We have terrible roads and drivers in SC. The roads in downtown Columbia where I live are awful. There is road construction going on everywhere and potholes galore. Also I think we are top 5 in road fatalities when population is taken into account. We have just under 3 million people here and so far this year we have had over 1,200 people killed in car accidents.

I travel a LOT, by land based vehicle, and over the last decade 90% of that travel has been in the SE. I concur with the mag's take on Louisiana Interstates, the repair shop thieves thrive and Dentists get wealthy from all who must do a lot of driving in that State. Surprised that I-20 across Northern Louisiana wasn't mentioned, but perhaps 5 times the traffic uses the I-10 corridor thus it gained the vote.
Evidently PA hasn't done anything since I was last there, the state of the Interstates bordered on hazardous due to potholes, cracking, and the peeking of seems. The speed limit was not attainable unless you simply wished to destroy the suspension of your vehicle. New York was no better, the Throughway was the equal of anything PA had but surprisingly the I-95 wasn't that bad. Vermont, NH, Mass, MD, VA do good jobs on their roads, NC's portion of I-95 will be fine when construction is finished as will be the I-85. Georgia & Florida take good care of their Interstates (I travel the I-75 corridor an aweful lot) and so do SC, AL, MS, TN, and KY. Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, and Missouri's highways are good, but some of the locally maintained roads could stand some attention.
Drivers??? Bad ones??? ANY metropolitan area is BAD, but the bigger the city, the worse the drivers! I'll still maintain that the ATL has the worse drivers but that's because I do more driving here, but to be sure, the drivers in other big cities aren't far behind.
What I notice more is the disregard for simple common sense things behind the wheel, as if all the safety improvements in our vehicles has provided folks with this notion that they don't have to pay attention to how traffic is flowing, where their exit point is, or how to blend in with the steady flow moving down the road. Things like recognizing you're approaching a busy exit/entrance area and moving into a through lane well before you get there, understanding that the big trucks cannot stop nor start again quickly and cutting them some slack as in many areas they are confined to specific traffic lanes.
But my #1 bitch goes to those who simply cannot bare to honor what the far left lane is for. If you don't know, it's for hauling azz or passing and that's why it is called the hammer lane!!!! Here in Georgia, a new law makes it ILLEGAL to occupy the hammer lane and impede the flow of traffic, the "Left Lane Louie" Law as we call it. IF your carcass gets into it, you'd better lead, follow, or get the hell outta the way, matters not if the lane's traffic is running in excess of the posted speed limit or not. On 3 lane Interstates, the center lane is the TRAVEL LANE, the right lane is the get off/get & slow truck lane, and the left lane is the passing or I want a speeding ticket lane. :D
Fwiw, I'll clock over 110,000 miles by years' end and have over 2M miles under my belt. I've gotten only 3 FDA's (fast driving awards) and haven't had an accident since 1988 when a non-English speaking/reading legal immigrant stopped in front of me as I exited Hartsfield International Airport one day. The reason he gave in court via an interpreter was that he didn't know which way to go as there are two choices to make as you leave the South passenger terminal. My van totalled his car and luckily nobody was injured seriously though I bare a scar on my forehead from catching the sun visor's clip and ruined my clothes from the resulting copious bleeding. Oh, the other guy was cited and had to fix my van. Justice prevailed! :D

Louisana needs to learn what asphalt is and use it more. Those god awfaul concrete interstates are terrible. Oh and Geaux, that service road that runs along Airline Hwy at the Sherwood intersection is terrible. The guy that designed that needs to be shot.

Worst roads, I would have to say Arkansas, but yeah like Georgia Pride said I-20 is pretty bad from birmingham to the state line, but Arkansas oh my God!!! Anyway after Jan I will give a better analysis my brother is flying in from 29 palms, Ca for Christmas and is driving his car back out there, so I decided to take off work and make a road trip out of it.
The worst drivers I have encountered would have to Tennessee sorry Vols, but everytime I cross into the state I see an accident, and even around were I live granted it is 15 to 20 min from Tenn all there drivers act as if they own the WHOLE road.
