I don't think Texas will quite have enough to beat USC... they get the 3-peat.

USC will basically have home-field advantage, and those crowds out there can get awfully noisy. They have a "good enough" defense to put a stop to some of Texas trickery, and actually slow Young down a little. Their offense, especially Bush, will just overpower the Texas defense, IMO, giving USC the advantage to take the win.

I'm going USC by 10+.

Texas is a better team than USC all around.I think if they hold them to 30 points or less they will win.

Sorry for throwing off the thread's chronological order, but figured I'd merge our prior converstation into this one.... so as to not hijack GeauxTo's thread with our banter. :p

I'm just still not caught up in Texas being better "all around". USC has a ton of talent, even in their second string, and even a handful of third stringers. Their offensive line is probably the best in the nation, which combined with a pair of insanely talented backs makes it easy for big plays to happen. With a good corps of wide receivers, the offensive line also gives Leinart more than enough time to make some big plays happen through the air as well. He also has to be one of the smartest QBs around.... not always "on" as we saw against UCLA part of the game, but definitely one of the smartest decision makers.

In comparison, I personally feel that Vince Young is the heart and soul of this Texas team. Sure there are some other talented guys, but he is the single player who really brings this thing together. If USC finds a way to slow him down (air and ground), they pretty much completely shut down the Texas offense. Whereas with USC, if one player gets shut down, they still have tons of talent around the field to make things happen.

It will definitely be one of the best NC games to watch in recent years, but I just don't think Texas will be able to pull off a win out in Cali. I think that overall USC is the "real deal", and just won't be stopped from completing their goals. They've got more top-picks for the NFL draft than anybody else, and we're going to see a lot of their names for many years to come.

I think it is going to be a very close game and I will be neither sad nor shocked if Texas wins. Somebody has to beat us sooner or later. Following are the reasons that I think we can pull it out.

1. Other than the Ohio State game, they were never in jeopardy all year long. USC, has played on the edge more than once and cruised to an easy victory.

2. Leinhart. That's right, Leinhart! Matt has been here three times before. He knows what he has to do to get the job done and he knows he has Reggie, LenDale, Wayne, Dominic, Steve, and Frostee to help get it done. Vince Young is a finer athlete and physical speciment, but he is a lot more hot-blooded than Matt. Cool wins championships, not hot.

3. Depth. We are, quite simply, deeper at every single position...even quarterback. John David Booty would be starting at most division one programs. We have a freshman, Patrick Turner at WR that would be leading the conference in catches at most places, but here he plays behind Wayne Jarrett and Steve Smith. Reggie, LenDale, Reggie, LenDale.

4. Home Field. Although it is technically UCLA's home field, believe me on that day it will be home sweet home for USC.

Be clear. This is not a game I would bet on, I think it is going to be very close...probably 3 points...and Texas has an even chance. I just think that each of these variables gives us a one point edge. So, in a three point game, 4 points puts us up by one.

Fight On!

Texas will win.

USC's defense will not stop the Texas offense. Hell, USC's defense couldn't stop Fresno State. I think Texas will win because they will slow down the USC offense and beat them in a shootout.

But the Texas defense really hasn't had much of a challenge this year. I'm still not that sure they can do anything to even slow down the USC offense.

This was very much a down year for the Big 12, with the exception of Texas. The Ohio State game was the only "hard" opponent they faced all year. Texas Tech was the best Big 12 team they faced all year, but Tech has got a pretty one-dimensional offense.... powerful, but relies too heavily on the pass.

Saying USC's defense couldn't stop Fresno is crazy, as Fresno has actually been a halfway decent team this year. Going on those lines, Texas really let A&M put up a lot more points than they should have as one of the lower teams of the Big 12 this year.

Too bad this game is a month away. I'm ready to see it now. :)

Fresno State lost to Nevada and then got beat by Louisiana State.

That game was before Troy Smith figured out how to win as well.

I voted for SoCal by more than 10, but by no means would I be shocked if Texas won. Of course I wouldn't be shocked if SoCal humiliated them though.
