It could have happened in any conference with a championship game. Colorado could have done it if they decided to show up for their game today. It has happened before and can happen again. Lots of people will be screaming for playoffs even still. The BCS proponents claim it is perfect because it matched #1 and #2 like everyone says it is designed to do and forget the rest of the teams that go to BCS bowls.

Exactly! Everyone who isn't stupid knows they just lucked out this year with (the west coast) USC and Texas. As far as FSU goes, perhaps the conference championship games serve as more than a cash cow for conferences:
Perhaps it gives talented teams with misdirection a chance to do some soul-searching and show their true mettle. If FSU plays with the same skill and determination that they showed against VT, they will represent the ACC well and be deserving of their berth, not to mention (possibly) winning a bowl game. After all, timing is everything; perhaps they just peaked at the right time.

I'm sure we'll see FSU enter the rankings today, just so we don't see an unranked team in a BCS bowl.
Regardless, I think they played one of their best games of the year last night against VaTech. If they play with that intensity in their bowl game, they'll represent the ACC very well. I wish it were SEC vs ACC in the Sugar Bowl. That would be a much more exciting matchup. :)

I would first like to congratulate the Dawgs on a stellar performance in last night’s championship game. I agree with everyone else so far that has called out the BCS. Sure, they matched up the rightful #1 and #2 but they shouldn’t leave the rest for bowls to decide which teams they want to play. It is ridicules for the SEC champ to play the champ of the big least. Now that FSU shocked the nation last night in there win over VT, why should they get to play PSU in the Orange Bowl. This is crap, why not have Georgia – PSU game? I think more people would be interested in watching that match-up and put the 4 loss criminoles in against Bobby Bowden’s former team WV. I think that would make more sense.
Earlier this week the SC state paper said that the only way for the Cocks to go to the Peach bowl would be if UGA won last night. Now that UGA did win, in ass-kicking style I might add, they still want to send us to Shreveport. The reason behind this is UF or FU any way you want to look at it. Because they have put so much pressure on the Outback to take them, this will now send a 2-loss LSU team to the Peach Bowl. I believe this is highly unfair to LSU. The Citrus Bowl is supposed to take the #2 team in the SEC, but because they accepted Auburn prior to the SEC Championship that leaves LSU sol. LSU having the tiebreak over Auburn should have made them SEC #2. This should of sent Auburn to the Cotton over #3 west Bama. Any way it is Fu*ked up and I guess that’s the way it’s going to be. But the biggest travesty of the whole BCS is that fu*king ND is going as an at large bid over LSU or Auburn.
