Caught Pat Dye doing an interview on the radio last night. Hate to say it but it doesn't sound like he's gonna be with us much longer.

He's been having some health troubles as of late and he really sounded bad yesterday. He could hardly get a sentence out without coughing. He's had the coughing problem for a while but it's gotten really bad and he's been in and out of the hospital this year.

During the interview he made some good observations on the season and the teams in the SEC. He was very complimentary of Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Georgia & South Carolina. When asked about the job Steve Spurrier is doing this year, he said something like "Yeah Steve's got em playin hard again...earlier in the year they were doing all kinds of strange stuff on defense. Standing up at the line and such. I guess Spurrier had a word with his defensive coaches and got em back on the ground. You can't play defense in this league with your line standing around like a bunch of girls." - classic :D

Anyways, he’s supposed to make an appearance at the game Saturday. I would hope that everyone at the game would show much respect.

I started the spring semester at Alabama in 1981. I arrived on campus early before all the students returned and settled into the dorm. I remember watching ESPN that afternoon in the dorm lobby on January 3, 1981 when ESPN announced that Auburn had just hired Wyoming's head football coach.

And I said out loud, "Who the hell is Pat Dye?".

And now, I don't think I'll ever forget him. Truly an incredible coach.
