Virginia suspends starting safety, three others
Nov. 10, 2005

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Safety Tony Franklin was among four Virginia football players suspended Thursday for undisclosed violations of team policy.

Franklin, a starter and one of four captains, will miss Saturday's critical game against No. 24 Georgia Tech along with nose tackle Kwakou Robinson, reserve wide receiver Ottowa Anderson and reserve defensive end Vince Redd.

Coach Al Groh said an investigation has begun. The school did not say if the suspensions were for more than one game.

"It's an internal matter that will be handled internally," he said during a conference call. "It will not be a distraction to me or the team, so I'm done with it."

Franklin, a junior, has started 26 games for Virginia (5-3, 2-3 Atlantic Coast Conference). Robinson was listed as a starter earlier in the week.

The game against the Yellow Jackets (6-2, 4-2) is the first of three more opportunities for Virginia to get a sixth victory and qualify for a bowl. The Cavaliers also host No. 8 Virginia Tech next weekend, then travel to No. 3 Miami for the regular-season finale Nov. 26.

Something tells me that Woody Telfort had his hand in this.
