Auburn University junior linebacker Kevin Sears was arrested early Sunday morning for driving under the influence and public drunkenness.
Sears, 22, of Russelville, was also involved in a single-car accident, according to Auburn police Capt. Tom Stofer.
At approximately 4:16 a.m. Sunday, Sears was found in the vicinity of an accident on South College Street between Garden Drive and Woodfield Drive.
"He was in the area of the accident, but not inside the vehicle," Stofer said. "That’s why he was arrested for public drunkenness. Later it was determined that he was the driver of the vehicle."
Sears was driving a 1995 Toyota Camry.
Sears, who had returned from Auburn’s game against Kentucky late Saturday, has played in all nine of the Tigers’ games this season, tallying 26 tackles. Sears started 12 games last season and three this season.
