I hope you, you should have lost last night and I hope you lose to the cocks.

The next two weeks will be an exciting time for the SEC. Head to head matchups of the championship contenders are as good as it gets. This is a playoff system of the purest form. I hope that SECTALK can rise above the childish behavior that we've seen in the past and have a little intelligent conversation about the strength and weaknesses that each team possesses.

Let's try something new for a change?

When you see a post that is an obvious bait, please just ignore that flame. Let's make a quanitative assessment of each team and provide an honest opinion of what you expect to happen.

Agreed! Let's have some intellectual conversation for a change...

I have no idea how to even begin to assess this week's games. There too many factors involved for all of these matchups, that its hard to predict anything with any certainty. Let's look at LSU/Bama...

LSU has played great some games, but also made a lot of mistakes/turnovers in others. If they make bad mistakes like that this week, the consequences could be more severe than they were in the previous LSU games this season. As for us, if our offense doesn't get some better pass blocking this week, we'll put our defense in the bad position of staying on the field for a large part of the game. And against a team like LSU, that has the potential to tire our defense over the course of the game. I think this game comes down to who makes fewer offensive mistakes.

As for the Auburn/UGA matchup, that is just as big of a question. UGA has played great sometimes, but looked like they were on the fringe of defeat at others. Auburn has been ranked high in defense all year, but this weekend allowed Kentucky(!!) to hang 450 yards and 27 points on them. If that same defense shows up to play in Athens this week, I have no doubt that Shockley will lead the Dawgs to a lot of points on Saturday. But that's assuming that the "good" UGA shows up. :)

And the other big matchup, Florida/USC. This ones up in arms right now. It's going to be a big game with Spurrier's first SEC matchup against his former team, at home for the Cocks, coming off a few big consecutive wins. Florida had a big win against UGA, and then almost blew the win against Vandy yesterday. USC will be playing for a 7-win record for the first time in a few years, and will have the support of tens of thousands of fans in their home stadium. I think the atmosphere in itself gives USC the advantage in this game and lets them keep it close, but like Vandy this week they might come up just short of the Win. Look for the Gamecocks to play one of their best games of the season!

Very good post, Jordan. I pretty much agree with all you've said.
LSU/Bama -- Unless they continue to shoot themselves in the foot, LSU can be formidable. The Tide defense is extraordinarily good, and if LSU is to win, they must establish a running game; very difficult against the Tide defenders.
Croyle could get some protection and get hot and with Pelini's unpredictability and inability to change his defensive schemes during the game, that could bode well for the Tide. If LSU comes to play, makes few mistakes, and the defense gets after Croyle, the consequence for the Tide could be severe. It will be an outstanding game, I feel sure.

USC/Florida -- I believe the Gamecocks have superior coaching and no one wants this one any more than the Ole Ball Coach. I look for the Gamecocks to get after Florida and come away with the win. Their defense has showed up and their offensive passing game is rolling. Leak and the Gators are still looking for their identity. They won't likely find it in Columbia.

Auburn/UGA -- Two good teams. Until Saturday, I thought sure The Barn would have the upper hand in this one, but after letting Kentucky score so many points on them, I'm not sure. One thing for sure, these are two talented, well-coached teams. This one could surely go either way, but I think the Dawgs might eek out a victory.

Classic letdown, aided by great QB play and a week off to scheme. I've said it before, Vandy always plays us tough....whether it's Spurrier, Zook, or, now, Meyer. We didn't expect overtime, but we expected a close game.

We'll be more than ready this week.

Are you ready for Auburn? I heard Shock is still limping around. :)

I wouldn't say that. For starters, if UGA loses out and USC wins against Florida, then USC wins the SEC East tiebreaker according to the SEC rules. :D

Take it for what it's worth.

Florida and USC would be 4-1 in the SEC East and UGA would be 3-2.
Since we beat Fla, we win!

I went onto eBay and saw that the majority of tickets for this weekend's game are reaching the $500-$700. Kinda makes you feel like going into town waving your $5 ticket around singing "I've got the golden ticket!". Damn, there are going to be some GREAT wins this weekend.

Roll Tide
Go Dawgs
Go Cocks

I am very excited about this game. Florida is VERY banged up this week. Carolina is pretty dog gone healthy considering it being November. A couple of other things I found interesting. Vandy threw for over 350 yds and 4 TD's against a Florida secondary that is even more depleted this week. Meyer said they may have to play more zone, which Mitchell should destroy. Spurrier loves throwing the ball against zone defense. Im not making predictions, and Florida may well win, but anyone who says Carolina has no chance is fooling themselves.

Yeah, Spurs neglected to send them his resume!
:p

Anyone heard from GateauxNation?? Awfully quiet. But I feel sure he will say that DisturbinUrban's offense is in no way suspect and that UrbanBlight is not a result of Spurs coaching circles around the interloper from the minor leagues.

Actually he's posted a few times on here since the game. This very respectful and classy post was made right after the Florida/SC game.

gg, cocks. And congratulations to jaw-juh for winning the east.

Mixed emotions....pissed we lost, but I'm very happy for Spurrier. And I hope Meyer, Foley, and Machen choke on this one until they puke. I feel great for Spurrier.....he showed great class this whole week. There's no better way to stick it to the administration that (supposedly) treated him poorly after the Zook firing. That Gator part of me is happy for our boy.....and he always will be, no matter what he does for usc. You get behind your HC, because that's what you do, but as you all know, I will always love and miss Spurrier....and not because we lost. I didn't think it would bother me THAT much to see him on the other sideline....but it did. I think there's a little part of Spurrier that is sort of sad today, too....he said as much after the game.

As for the game, everything I said we needed to do, we didn't do:

1. We didn't stop the run. Usc was able to maintain a balanced attack and just wait for UF penalties and mistakes to happen. They came early and often.

2. Webb, supposedly one of the SEC's best cover corners, was absolutely horrible. I said we couldn't worry about both corners during the game. Webb's collapse was all Mitchell needed.

3. We got behind early, which means the TOP battle/option-running game works against you. Mullen, as I feared, had no come-from-behind gameplan...and certainly no two-minute offense. As good as the playcalling was in the first half, it was equally horrible in the second. Our defense played like absolute crap, but Mullen compounded the problem by basically running out the clock throughout most of the third and fourth quarters, making a comeback less and less likely with every three-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust we generated. These coaches are supposed to be smart, but they fell into the old tried-and-true Nebrasska trap: run yourself right out of a comeback. This was not a Leak-can't-run-the-option problem. If we were ever going to have the ability to make up some ground, this is the QB and the team to do it. The fact that we didn't really come close to doing it speaks volumes about Mullen's capability to call an offensive game amidst pressure (on the road to boot) and Meyer's general offensive concept. It's easy to run an offensive system that sits on the ball when you're up by 27. What do you do when you're behind and your defense can't stop a runny nose? Throw most of blame on the defense, but imo some can also be placed at the feet of the coaching staff.

4. UF lost the battle of field position. First kick-off: out of bounds. We minimized PR yards, but we were often punting deep within our side of the field, giving usc a much shorter field with which to work.
__________________

I also have to say this: I lost a lot of respect for Meyer and Mullen today for putting Baker in the game. By risking the health and well-being of one of your players in an effort to get the offense moving--when the offensive struggles were (likely) the result of the coaches--was really unbelieveable to watch.

Once again, congrats, cocks. You played a great game. You deserve it.

That's all.

Impressive! GateauxNation is, as I have always known and believed, a class act. Very knowledgeable and very classy. He loves his Gators and he is in some pain right now.
