Tigers Schedule Ole Miss

By Roy Philpott

Date: Oct 27, 2005

Clemson will play Mississippi in 2015 and 2016.

Clemson has scheduled a home-and-home series in football with Mississippi starting in 2015.

The Tigers will play Ole Miss at home that year before travelling to Oxford, Miss. to take on the Rebels the following season.

Clemson has also recently scheduled Vanderbilt (2012 & 2013) and Georgia (2013 & 2014) as out of conference opponents in the coming years.

Clemson will also meet Pittsburgh in 2010 and 2011.

I would like to see Clemson in the SEC along with Florida State and Georgia Tech. Make holes by sending Arkansas to the Big 12 where they belong and want to be, Send Vandy and S. Carolina to the ACC (Vandy gets to compete against the Dukes and Wake Forests of the world...S. Carolina gets a chance to hang another banner in their stadium to go along with the 1969 ACC champs). Other than Vandy, it makes sense regionally. Just a thought.

Another thought.....We could send Alabama to the Sun Belt and bring in Troy. Oh well, just another thought.

No offense but S. Carolina just doesn't seem to fit in the SEC. Can't put my finger on it but I've always thought the Cocks seemed a little out of place, much like the Razorbacks. Guess I'm old school.

Didn't mean to jump all over your post, but you have to understand the resentment SC folks have with the ACC. To even propose that stings most of us old-time Gamecock fans. Our leaving the ACC back in the early '70s (to become an independent) was not on friendly terms, and to be honest, there's no way in hell we'd go back to the ACC.

In my best Johnny Carson impersonation..."I did not know that." Seriously, I thought you were in the ACC when you joined the SEC back in the early 90s. I'll just be quiet now but I would like to see some better regional alignments. Peace out.

No problem. The following gives a synopsis of our conference affiliations.....

South Carolina was a founding member of the Atlantic Coast Conference in 1953, but it left in 1971 after disputes over the conference's recruiting regulations and the control the ACC's four North Carolina schools had over the ACC. USC then competed as an independent in all sports until 1983, when it joined the Metro Conference for sports other than football. As you know, in 1991, USC and Arkansas joined the SEC, and made the SEC what it is today. ;)
