The state newspaper will have you believing that SC will be pretty darn competitive this year in the SEC. I know we have some talent on the team but last year alot of that talent seemed very raw, that coupled with the loss of leading scorer Carlos Powell and you have to wonder if this is just the newspaper blowing smoke. Any comments?

it's hard to say cause i really don't know much about where the other teams in the SEC stand....my guess is we will be good enough to be battling florida for the #2 spot in the East and we will make the NCAA tourney this year. our best attribute this year will be depth, but i think the key will be better shooting and more aggressiveness down low. if tisby can play as he did late last season and wallace and balkman are more aggressive we could have a pretty darn good interior. if tre kelley shoots the ball a little better and both day and trice shoot like we know they can, we could actually have a pretty darn good perimeter game as well.
those are IFs though....so we'll see. i think the worst case scenario is a season similar to last years....and even though we didn't make it to the NCAA tourney there was still plenty of exciting basketball so i wouldn't be too upset with that.

With Florida losing Roberson, Walsh, & Lee I think South Carolina will be an easy second in the east.

With the Great Alaska Shootout, USC has potential to have a great opening and can gel long before SEC play.
I will say this, Don't forget Vandy in all this EAST talk.

The season rests on Tisby he could be a darn good SEC center or and average one, Balkman you never now, Wallace is still learnin so is Kelly. The only thing I worry about is a consistent scorer like Powell we just dont have it.

Is this the same paper that kept proclaiming how great the football team would be this year?
Sorry, just couldn't resist a cheap shot that you left open there... :D
I don't know if I'll be that into basketball this year. We lost some good players last year, and I just don't know if we have very good people to fill in their shoes.

Bama should be in the dance again, your team is well coached.

We gonna be pretty damn good this year. Coach Odom was saying that Tre' Kelley could be one of the best point guard in the SEC, and if that is true we are gonna to be pretty good. Tisby was a beast last year with limited time. If Balkman and Wallace play up to their potential, our inside will be solid and also Wallace can also shoot from the outside. I think he had one game last year where he made 5 straight 3's or something. I think he also made the game-winning shot in the NIT Title Game. If we play up to our potential we should be good. The biggest problem is going to be our outside shooting. McFadden, Kelley, and Rice HAVE to shoot the ball better. If we do that we can stay in games and compete with Kentucky. Yes, I did say we can compete with Kentucky. We play well against them, they are like the Georgia for football.

Your absolutely right, i did forget about vandy but i think we will be alright. As for the Great Alaska Shootout i hope we get the opportunity to show So. Cal all about the real USC.
