Gainesville, FL. Beset by doubts that his highly touted spread offense will produce, Coach Urban Meyer has announced that he is stepping down as offensive coordinator and has hired Kami Kumubu of Himalaya State University to take over those duties. "Sometimes when you're climbing a mountain, it helps to have a little guy who does need as much oxygen as you."

Kumubu (pictured below) will take over his duties immediately. In addition to replacing Meyer as offensive coordinator, he will replace the equipment truck as well.

Meyer is in WAY over his head. And I'd fire the OL Coach for this:

From the Tampa Tribune....

"Florida offensive line coach John Hevesy said he and his line never
saw tape last week of the LSU defense against an empty backfield. As
a result, the Gators had no idea the Tigers would blitz every time
Florida lined up with no backs.

"I wish someone would've shown us something," Hevesy said. "We went
into that game without looking at one shot of how they defend empty.
That's one of the faux pas, I guess, you get seeing the first snap."

Hevesy said the only way to stop six rushers with five blockers is to
use "hot routes," which are short passing routes that allow the
quarterback to throw the ball quickly."

How frackin stupid is that? Dude's at a top shelf program and "had no idea that LSU would blitz the empty set"????????????

I saw this retard slobbering screaming at his OL on an outtake last week and wanted to reach through the screen and choke the excrement outta him. What part of MAKING SOME ADJUSTMENTS don't he, Meyer, or the OC GET?

I guarandamteeya that if this is the FU that shows up at Alltel next Saturday, you gaytoids might as well make your plans for Shreveport, not that there's anything wrong with a town with a casino and great food....

awwww, you guys, thanks for the kind words. all of the sudden, schula is the remaking of his dad and richt isnt being questioned for running the ball at the goal line with 8 seconds left. funny how 6 or 7 games can change a fan's perspective, huh?

on a more serious note, i think 1 of 2 things need to happen in order to have an inkling of success of offense:

1- Put leak under center some, give him a te and rb to help block and throw the ball down the field like he used to. this is an offense that is 1 year removed from leading the sec and the only threat we lost was fason(and zook, and he was a negative threat). run a dive every now and then, it is in the playbook somewhere. this would require meyer to swallow a little pride, but it beats what he is swallowing right now. thing is, leak cant run the option. plain and simple. every time they run it, it is a waste of a down. nobody is scared of leak cutting it up and running it, so one defender can damn near play all 3 options. scary, huh?

2-if meyer must try to run this option, put portis in. i know it is a bit drastic, but as i mentioned before, leak cant run it. the lack of leak's ability to run the option pretty much eliminates any threat of a running attack, which is why there is never a receiver open to throw the ball to. even the alabama's of the late 90s, early 2000's could stop that(sorry, couldnt help it). this would cut down on the passing a bit, but could it be any worse than 100 yards passing? tommie frazier and eric crouch both could pass for 100 yards and both could run a little, too.

I think what they are considering putting Leak under is the bus. As for tossing in Portis, I am not sure that this is the message that you want to be sending next year's starter.

The thing that blows me away about Meyer is that everytime I have heard him talk about "the system" he says that it is not a system and that it is always his philosophy to work with what you have and design an offense that goes with the personnel, not force personnel to adapt to an offense. This does not seem to be what he is doing at this time.

i think this is the message every coach sends to the starter. get the job done or get pulled. pretty simple, happens all over america every week. it doesnt happen to a pre-season all conference qb all that often(charlie whitehurst comes to mind). im not jumping ship on leak, i think he is possibly the best throwing qb in the sec. he has proved that the last couple of years. i am saying he cannot run the option. i would like to see a stat that compares leak's rushing attempts(not counting sacks) as opposed to other qbs who have ran this system for the same amount of time.

i am a believer that it is the coach's responsibility to adapt to the hand he is dealt, not force a hand into a game it doesnt belong. if you leave leak in, quit running the option with him. let him take the snap and run a zone play for the rb and let the rb pick his hole(or lack thereof).

No worries....your delusions of grandeur end this week. ;)

BILOXI, Miss. -- Urban Meyer was reduced to tears after Florida's 21-17 loss to LSU on Saturday at Tiger Stadium.

The Gators' wunderkind first-year coach evidently hasn't learned a fundamental rule of the Southeastern Conference.

There's no crying in the SEC.

Steve Spurrier cracked wise. He baited Florida State. But the Ol' Ball Coach didn't cry.

Jackie Sherrill mumbled. He baited sportswriters. (Ahem.) But he didn't cry.

Bear Bryant . . . man, do we even have to go there?

I listened to the fourth quarter between LSU and Florida on the radio, driving back from Oxford on Saturday evening and I thought Tigers broadcaster Jim Hawthorne might pull his hair out every time the home team got hit with a costly penalty.

But Hawthorne wouldn't cry about it.

Meyer was overcome with emotion after Florida quarterback Chris Leak got roughed up by the Tigahs' defense. Leak passed for a measly 107 yards against LSU, completing just 11 of 30 passes. But Florida was still in the game, right until the end.

Leak told the St. Petersburg Times that Meyer was "bawling his eyes out" after the game.

No wonder the St. Pete paper blared the headline, "Loss Makes Meyer the Ol' Bawl Coach."

Hey, Spurrier's Gators got buried by Lawrence Phillips and Nebraska in the BCS championship game about 10 years ago.

Somehow, I think it's Phillips, not Spurrier, who's crying now.

Spurrier's getting paid millions of dollars to restore hope at South Carolina.

Phillips, a career criminal who hocked his national championship ring to a Vegas pawn shop, is in the hole.

Meyer has already lost as many games at Florida as he did in his two years at Utah, but he's got to get a grip.

SEC coaches don't cry.

General Robert Neyland used war metaphors to get the job done at Tennessee. He wouldn't dare invite the wrath of George S. Patton by wailing into tears after a tough loss.

Charlie McClendon butchered the English language and couldn't beat Alabama, but he'd keep a stiff upper lip after the Tigers came up short in Red Stick.

Vince Dooley didn't jump on Oprah's couch and share his inner thoughts and fears when Georgia got beat in a bowl game.

Shoot, even Ron Zook, Meyer's predecessor at Florida, would rather grit his teeth than shed some tears. I don't think Zook cried after he nearly lost a foot to a water skiing accident a couple years back.

We can only imagine Spurrier's reaction when he learned Meyer unleashed the water works like Halle Berry at the Academy Awards.

I'm thinkin' it went something like this:

"Hey, Steve, check this out . . . "

"Our boy Urban oughta work for Daniel Snyder for a couple years. He'd really get choked up."

Meyer's team has an open date before the Gatahs tee it up with unbeaten Georgia in the "World's Greatest Outdoor Cocktail Party" in Jacksonville on Oct. 29.

I can see the headlines already:

"Bulldogs drub Gators, Meyer dries his eyes."

This ain't the Mountain West, Coach.

Are you on drugs? We lost twice....to two top-10 teams and beat one top-5 team in the Swamp. We haven't lost at home. We still have a not-so-unrealistic shot at Atlanta, and our defense is among the best in the nation.

If that constitutes a "train wreck," your gf must have rolled over you last night.

Go take a midol, "super." It must be that time of the month for you....I heard it helps bloating, and you certainly have a big head of late.

In addition to all of the other things I mentioned, we caused 5 turnovers in the Bayou, nearly doubled l-essU's rushing per/game average, and battled the #5 team in the nation to within 4 points....on the road....with an opportunity to win the game in the final drive, even with the struggling offense.

Get over the win in Tuscaloosa....time to move on. I think we've more than shown that was an aberration.

It's an aberration because nothing like it has happened since; we played l-essU very close, and we all know who is the more talented team. Those turnovers weren't gifts. The defense made them happen. Stop looking at things with crimson-colored glasses.
