I think this is the first game in a long time that I have been to that the student section was about half full. Does anybody know what the deal was and was something else going on that kept them away? Their presence was missed when Kentucky was down on the North end. Speaking of noise, I think I met the type of gamecock fan that keeps our stadium from being as electric as Auburn or some other schools. The lady in front of us told my son-in-law "You are extremely loud". Too loud, I thought that is the goal to be loud. I told him he should have said "thank you". I have people that set around us that never show any emotion at all. I guess it has to mean something to you. They are just too laid back.

Maybe they were at the fair or something ..... or thinking it would rain and being "fair" weathered fans. TV sure did show a lot of empty seats though.

supposedly now that they're checking all the tickets, we find out that not as many students go to the game. Maybe there were more non-students in the student section than we thought

yes, there have always been a lot of non-students in the student section, but i assure you that saturday's void in the student section had nothing to do with that. the Bama game was jam packed as always for the big games, and that policy had already been put into place.

i would presume the void could be explained by the fact that most years people don't really care about the kentucky and vandy games, but they go cause it's gamecock football and watching blowouts can be fun. this year, however, it wasn't unreasonable to think we could actually lose to kentucky if our offense didn't play well. my guess is that most of the fans that didn't show up just didn't want to be there in case kentucky beat us. does that make them fair-weather fans? YES. but guess what? They've always been fairweather fans! there are plenty of people that go for the sole purpose of drinking and tailgating, and then decide they may as well go to the game to hang out some more with their friends. most of our fans aren't like that, but plenty of them here, and at most every other school, are like that.

as for the true fans that didn't go....well some of us had other stuff going on, hehe. i couldn't take that entire afternoon off, cause i definitely needed to study....but i was sure to listen to the game on the radio while i was studying just like JB bought the game on PPV to support his gamecocks.
