I heard the same thing. Thank god. Heffner is a D-II QB at best...

I got angry at his performance also, but now that the dust has settled, we need to remember that the Auburn game was his very FIRST game starting and he's still a freshman. He may turn out pretty good in the end.

I know you hate Mitchell NEO but he's the man for this year and probably next year as well even if we get Jimmy Clausen(please GOD).

I don't hate Mitchell. I did hate him when he was too busy downing beers/shots instead of studying the playbook. Since then he has put things in their proper places.

Thank you lord for the miracle I asked for during the week. I also have heard that Syvelle will be the backup to Blake.

If the Lord had anything to do with this:
SMU would never have gotten the death penalty,
Notre Dame would still have Ara as its coach and Rudy would have started,
TCU would be a top 10 team,
Auburn would still be a Methodist school,
and USC would have an offensive line.

How good is it that Mitchell is coming back so soon.....What will he be....80% maybe. All Kentucky has to do is bring the house. He couldn't run when he was healthy, so this ought to be fun to watch when he limps.

If they roll his ankle again, chances are good we will have to forget Mitchell for the rest of this season. Then there will be alotta people second guessing this decision to use him against Kentucky. Seems more reasonable to me to start Syvelle or even Hef (for 1 series to see if he's going to play) before risking Mitchell at 80%. If we can win without Mitchell, great, if not, then put him in and take the chance.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought I read he was at 80% Wednesday, and he said it had been improving quite a bit each day? Therefore, by Saturday, he should be much better than 80%. I couldn't see them playing him if it doesn't continue to improve.

HOPEFULLY, this will be the scenario: he gives us a big lead and we hold 'em with our D.....oh....er....that was last year. Well maybe the defense will play aggressively, as in the Troy game, and force some turnovers. I see Blake coming out if at all possible, if we get any kind of lead, or perhaps on alternate series. At this point, he is just too valuable a commodity to risk. With him, we are mediocre but dangerous; without him, we are totally pathetic.

Every time Antonio Heffner has stepped onto the field this year, he's looked as nervous as the guy in the Tiger Woods video game commercial. It's good to see Mitchell coming back but I hope Spurrier isn't making a mistake by putting him in there before he's close to 100%.
If we lose Mitchell, we'll have already reached our win total for the year.
And if Mitchell isn't close to 100%, I say we let Heffner start and put Blake in there for the 2nd half ONLY IF WE NEED HIM. To risk losing him at this point against a team like UK (no offense Cat fans) would be a huge blunder. Ankle injuries are tricky..once you turn one and don't let it heal completely, the odds of re-injuring it worse than the first time are pretty high....I'm not sure that's a risk I'd take with what is by far my best QB.
Lastly, I don't buy this "keep in mind that AH is only a freshman" BS. Heffner's from the same recruiting class as Blake, correct? He's had the same time to adjust to the college game, he's had the same time in which to learn Spurrier's offense and he's seen enogh game action to get a feel for the speed of real game action. There is no viable excuse for the difference in performance between Mitchell and Heffner other than Heffner just plain sucks...which I believe to be the case. It's a cliche...some good high school players can get it done at the next level, some fold. The results on the field speak for themselves, unfortunately.

Nope....
Mitchell is a RSSoph. Heffner is a RSFr. Here are their recruiting classes....

I stand corrected, thanks Neo.
Still, if Heffner's going to be of any use to our program this year or in the future, he's going to need the in-game experience to work out some of the nervousness he's shown these first five games. I'd rather we started Heffner and give Mitchell this week (and hope we don't need him) and the open date to really get that ankle back to full strength before we hit that rough stretch right after. That's just my opinion though...i'm sure others will disagree.
Thank God none of us is coaching, only Spurrier's opinion matters and Thank God he benched AH for this weekend (hopefuly forever), none of us on here are QB gurus, but we have arguably the best QB in CFB history (Tedford might end up being #1 later on) as our coach and he isn't impressed with AH, the "athletic", "running" QB thing is done, we need to get over that, Outside of Mike Vick they are usually collossal failures and turnover prone (see culpepper), we need a field general, someone who can manage the clock, and someone with a BRAIN, not a cannon for an arm when you miss 10-15 yard outs, have we learned nothing from the Lou Holtz era???

My Guess & Hope Is...
If Mitchel Starts, He Will Be Pulled At Halftime And N & H Will Split The Rest Of The Game.

There may be an outside chance that he isn't hurt as bad as we all think. If he plays or starts this game, I've got to think we may have been sandbagging a little bit. 'Cause consensus among all the brilliant minds on this website all agree, it would be stupid to the nth log if we waste Mitchell on Kentucky (no offense KY). If he goes in, I'd be willing to bet he's 100% and ready to kick kitty tail.
