florida has done well this year and will continue to do well, but i could win 6 games at florida. meyer is a good coach and is capable of making some changes. i hope he will. his offensive scheme dominated the mountain west, but this is the sec where there ARE defenses. sure, he'll always be able to beat kentucky, vanderbuilt, south carolina and so on, but let's face it. i like florida, but i just dont think you all will be happy win just 7 wins every year. as a south carolina fan, i would give my left arm for 7 wins, but we aren't on the same level as florida. meyer is gunna have to run things a little differently on offense if he's going to consistenly beat the bulldogs, the vols, the tigers, and now the tide (although i dont think that is a worry because shula is as good as everyone thinks) any thoughts on having leak play the alex smith style of football? come on, he's too good to be doing that.

Well, that's the whole point. Seven wins a year got Zook fired, and if Meyer can't win more than 7, he'll be fired too.
.....and if he can't win more than 7, I'll even offer to drive him to the airport.

Okay now here's a question, will UF ever be UF again? And if Urban got fired in lets say 2 years would Spurrier return to the Gators?
I bet a lot of gator fans would like to have S.O.S. back, but I think we should stay with what weve got. We still have just as good a chance as anybody to have a great season. Its just 1 loss, we werent ready to play, they were, they built it around there whole season. We will get our revenge in the S.E.C. championship game.

Come on GN. Pull yourself together. I can't believe the dismissal of Meyer is already being talked about after 1 loss. We Gators sure are fairweather fans. Same problems (7 win seasons) 4 years from now and it's time we talk.

Guys, I'm not talking about getting rid of Meyer! I said that if Meyer has 7 wins a season for the next 3, 4, 5 years, then something needs to be done AT THAT POINT. Because if 7 wins becomes the new UF benchmark for HCs to keep their job, we should've just kept Zook.
That's all I'm saying...

I did a little digging into Florida's all time record. You guys were spoiled by Spurrier.
Prior to SOS arriving at Florida, UFL was an OKAY team...not bad, but not great. Their all-time winning percentage at that time was .570 percent. If you measure from 1933 which was when they entered the SEC and started playing 10 games, their winning percentage was a bit lower at .554. During that time they averaged winning 5.7 games and losing 4.5 games per season. Using your 7 wins for 4 seasons criteria, Bob Woodruff would have been fired after 5 seasons instead of 10, likewise Ray Graves would have served 5 of 10 years. Doug Dickey would have been out in four of his nine. Charlie Pell and Galen Hall had interesting records as well.
Football life during Spurrier's dozen years was a phenomenal run for ANY coach. How did you guys ever piss him off? Without Spurrier, the Gators were a middle of the pack SEC team. They did not sink to new depths under Zook...they simply returned to their place in line.

The same can be said of Bowden and f$u. They were the Troy of college football in the 70s and 80s. I don't think those kind of comparisons hold much water. We all know it's a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately business.
As for SOS, he had his own problems as well....and looking it up made me feel a bit better about UF and Bama's great game on Saturday:
the blowout loss to UT in 1990.....by a wider margin....SOS also not scoring a TD, 45-3
Another similar blowout loss to the Bama game against UT in 1992, 31-14, and another game without a TD (a 30-6 loss against MSU)--this, Spurrier's third year on the job.
Creamation by free-shoes (1992) in a 24-45 loss, as well as 2 back-to-back losses that year (UT/MSU and f$u/Bama).
We all know about the debacle that was the '95-96 Fiesta Bowl.
Uh-ga's 20-point win in 1997.
Three losses in a row in 1999:
Florida State (12-0): 23-30
Alabama (10-3): 7-34 (sort of looks like a certain score last week....)
Michigan State (10-2): 34-37
Losses to MSU (47-35), a blowout to f$u (30-7), and a 17-point loss to scUM (37-20) in 2000.

Yet with all those games Im sure that when its all said and done Spurrier will have a much better record at UF than Meyer will.

I'll give you two words REB:Got Greedy! Gator fans got greedy and expected to beat UT and UGA handily, win the SEC and go to the National Championship game. Spurrier got old and tired quickly and just said the hell with it, Ill take my chances and make some money in the NFL. Gator fans have nothin to blame but themselves, ask Spurrier he says the same thing at the press conferences.

Maybe, maybe not. But Meyer will have a better record than Spurrier at his new school.

of course spurrier will have a better record. he was the founder of the fun and gun offense when everyone was playing run, run, run, punt and get good field position football. meyer will never do at florida what he did at utah because this is the SEC. we actually play defense. the beaty of it is meyer doesn't have to do what he did at utah. he can afford a couple losses and still get to the same bowl utah did undefeated.

ii was talking about spurrier's record at florida vs. meyer's future record. south carolina is not on the same level as florida.

Ouch! I think that left a mark.
