Good thing Urban Meyer is such a genius. Otherwise, this game really might have gotten out of hand.....Good thing Ron Zook did such a spiffy job recruiting. Good thing Alabama coach Mike Shula is so predictable. Good thing Florida quarterback Chris Leak is such a Heisman candidate. Otherwise, the Gators might really have been embarrassed on Saturday afternoon. As it was, Alabama only won 31-3, a trifling margin that seems much more merciful than it might have been. The Tide dominated almost every play, at almost every position, in as lopsided a manner as you could imagine. There are grape-stompings that are more closely contested.

Tallahassee Democrat:

It all came to a crashing halt on Saturday, when Alabama's 407 total yards of offense embarrassed a Florida defense that will no longer be called the SEC's best.
That title, of course, goes to Alabama.

my favorite quote from the first article would have to be when he mentioned the first play of the game

Consider, if you will, Alabama's first play of the game, when Croyle launched an 87-yard touchdown pass to Prothro. Air Mikey. Who would have imagined it? It was as if Shula spent the last decade of his coaching career calling off-tackle plunges to set up that one play.

good articles SG

This just goes to show that the people who write about football know nothing about football. Shula's offense has been based on the play action pass forever. We ran the ball alot last year because Croyle was injured. I wish journalist would do their homework. Its really sad that people actually believe most of what they read.

For goodness' sakes, how could a team ranked No.5 in the country not be prepared? Everyone knew the stakes. Win here, and the team is in position for a special season. Win here, and more people believe you are moving back toward the program's former glory. Seems Alabama beat Florida at that, too.

i like this quote the best. it seems like urban and co kept saying how unprepared they were, not giving credit where credit is due. the fact is, gator offense played bad because we got to leak early and often, not because they were unprepared.

not a newspaper quote, but

"That team in red was much more prepared than the team in orange," said Gators coach Urban Meyer, who suffered the most lopsided loss in his 51-game coaching career and saw a personal 20-game win streak end."

is that really how he thinks and identifies?.......

As another writer said, "For goodness' sakes, how could a team ranked No.5 in the country not be prepared?" Preparing the team is the job of the coach(es), so by Meyer saying that it is a hit on himself.

Almost as bad as Less Miles' quote after the arizona state game...now i know this is old news, but seriously how can a SEC coach say this...

"we held them pretty good in the first half, but then they changed stuff."

I miss Saban's no nonsense attitude...i would have let my wife sleep with him, now that she is my exwife, he surely deserves MUCH better. Go Miami!!!

THAT QUOTE EXPLAINS EVERYTHING!

Meyer must have been watching another game because Florida was wearing white and Alabama had those crimson jerseys.

man guys, you won the game. you dominated the game from start to finish. won the biggest game at home since the early nineties. good job. you dont have to sit here picking apart every word a coach says and somehow turn it inot saying he is disrespecting your team. he has said that alabama beat them in every aspect, what else you want? news flash: in the next couple of weeks, urban meyer isnt going to show up in tuscaloosa and get on his knees and claim alabama "the greatest team ever." not gonna happen.

look at it from a florida standpoint. if you were a player and all you heard was a coach going out there in every news conference and continually say how bad alabama beat them last week. not very motivating.

enjoy your win, harp on the game and how bad ya'll won all you want, but dont act like florida's coach was disrespecting your team.

Maybe Meyer will learn to wait until after the game before he starts talking. What's the story with that half time interview anyway... he may be a religious man for all I know, but talking in tongues during an interview is just wrong on so many levels....

Sportswriters are not journalists...they are the guys who got chosen last in pick up games, never made it off of JV, stood in the stag line at school dances, and seem perpetually stuck in adolescence.

You 'Bama boys gonna ride this game as long as you rode the Bear legacy? It was a great win for the tide, but it's a good thing you guys had an off week. I hope for Shulas sake, the team gets over this win sooner than you all.
