USC police are investigating an incident involving suspended USC football player Cory Boyd, who allegedly threatened to slash the car tires of a female student Monday night.
The roommate of Tericka Sanders told police around 10 p.m. Monday that Boyd became “verbally abusive to her and her roommate, threatening to slash (Sanders’) tires if she did not settle a debt,” according to the incident report.
Two hours later, Sanders informed police that someone had flattened the right rear tire of her SUV, causing an estimated $150 in damage, according to a second incident report. Sanders’ vehicle was parked in a lot outside East Quad dormitory at the time.
Campus police officer D. Adams talked to Boyd by phone Monday night, and, “The two are continuing to resolve the matter,” the report said. USC spokesman Russ McKinney confirmed the incident is under investigation but would not comment further.
Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier said Tuesday that he was unaware of the incident.
“I don’t think Cory is that stupid to do that ... but I don’t know,” Spurrier said. “I don’t think he’d do that. But I’m not guaranteeing anything.”
Attempts to reach Sanders were unsuccessful Tuesday; Boyd was unavailable for comment.
In June, Boyd began serving a yearlong suspension for an undisclosed violation of athletic department policy. The junior tailback is not eligible to play in games until 2006 but continues to practice with the team.
Boyd, a native of Orange, N.J., was the Gamecocks’ second-leading rusher and receiver in 2004, when he ran for 309 yards and caught 35 passes for 347 yards.
