Spurrier doubtful Mitchell will play against Auburn
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina quarterback Blake Mitchell probably wont play Saturday against Auburn, Gamecock coach Steve Spurrier said.
Instead, Spurrier is changing his offense for freshman Antonio Heffner, who is more comfortable running the ball than staying in the pocket.
"It will be a completely different game plan," Spurrier said Monday. "Well have some new ball plays for these guys."
Mitchell suffered a high ankle sprain while being sacked late in the third quarter of South Carolinas 45-20 win over Troy.
Spurrier said Mitchell should just sit back and rest this weekend because Heffners running style will probably be better against Auburns faster defense.
"The way our pass protection is right now, I dont know if Blake could last anyway," Spurrier said.
