First and foremost, thanks to all for everyone's thoughts and concerns. After 5 miserable days, I'm trying to resume life here in H-Town!! Thankfully, we dodged a bullet here locally. More to tell later!!
To the game....I could not be more proud of my Vols!! They showed alot of heart and character to come back to win in that environment. Tonight's second half very likely could turn the whole season around. 8-3-1 All Time in Baton Rouge...so much for that Death Valley Crap!!
Now for the Blatant truth...this was an UGLY game!! PLEASE stop calling this game an "Instant Classic". Exciting finish, yes...but Classic??? NO WAY!!!
This was a close game between 2 teams with great talent, but SERIOUS coaching problems and no offensive identities. This game leaves both teams with bigger questions than answers. Better for the Vols, but let's please not act like everything is hunky dorey in Volville!! It seemed that the same Offensive Coordinator was coaching both teams. I don't understand the logic...both teams have incredible RB's and had some successes on the ground, Yet both OC forced the issues with their young QB's. The Vols seemingly learned NOTHING from their pitiful performance in Gainesville a week ago and again abandoned the running game seemingly before the first play was run. You know, you almost get the sense that today's coaches refuse to feature the pound-it-out run game for fear that it's not "sexy" enough for the fans. It may not be pretty, but if you're successful at it, the only team can beat it IS that team. All I know is that the Vols haven't won crap since they stopped playing that brand of ball. Bottom line is that it's time for Sanders to go!! The Vols need a fresh look on the offensive side of the ball. They have not had a true identity offensively for years!
As for LSU, I think alot of the same applies. They seemed to outsmart themselves in the 2nd half and the entire team looked completely lifeless coming out of the half time locker room. How Addai doesn't get at least 30 touches a game is simply mind-boggling. That guy is AWESOME!! Just a quick memo to Miles...when you are dominating a team like Tennessee at half-time, you RUN THE BALL IN THE 2ND HALF!! LSU has plenty of weapons and a talented O-Line, but like Tennessee, they seemingly have no idea on how best to utilize it. Good luck to you guys the rest of the season.
Now I'm not ALL negative.... The Vols have 2 BIG advantages the rest of the season.
1. IMO, they have hands-down the best defense in the SEC. Safety is still a concern, but the front 7 is fabulous. They will keep the Vols in every game the rest of the way!!
2. Nobody else in the SEC is looking overly-impressive meaning that I don't see anybody else going undefeated in conference play. Basicly, your pre-season goals are still very attainable!!
Of course all of this is void if the Vols can't unf@ck themselves offensively.
Finally, put those nails away!! Every Vol hater was grinning from ear to ear with 1 quarter left in the game tonight. You all were SO ANXIOUS to get the shovels and bury us. We'll ultimately see who has the last laugh, but if you here Rocky Top reigning onto the Georgia Dome floor come December, we'll all look back to tonight and remember this season's CPR!!!
GO VOLS!!
