Boy, we have really turned on our guys. We knew going into this season that we had deficiencies, especially on the line. All summer long we talked about how hard these guys were working. Now, all of a sudden because of the Bama game, we are not only benching them (which I am in favor of in order to see what our freshmen can do), but we are treating them as if they are our bastard children. Come on now, these are our guys and we will need them all season long. We were very hopeful coming out of the UGA game, but our hopes were dashed the next week. Who knows what we will have when this is all said and done. Sure, we need to encourage our guys to get their act together, but I will stand behind any guy who will put himself up against SEC competition especially in light of what has happened since last November.
By the way, for those of you who are students, unless you are making straight A's or at least giving 100% effort in all of your classes, then you have no right to criticize any ball player who does not measure up to your standards on a Saturday afternoon. Let's keep this in a proper perspective.

I agree 100%. While I didnt expect to get beat like that by Bama I am not going to act like we need to just toss this team out the window and start working on a whole new one. Hopefully this will be a lesson to the players and they can use this experience to get better and give it their all in the future. When Holtz came to SC he went 0-11 his first season. Granted, he inherited a 1-10 team, but still... Steve Spurrier inherited a 6-5 team that was completely designed around a totally different gameplan. We are very lucky that for some strange reason Holtz managed to land Mitchell or else we'd be stuck with all linebackers and wr's at the qb position. Spurrier seems to be as upset as anybody about the game so Im sure things will change. I also think that highschool players hearing fans complain about the players all the time isnt gonna help recruiting. Im not saying that fans should support their team no matter what kind of effort or results they have on the field, but fans also shouldnt just write them off because of it.

Not trying to flame.....but I thought usc's whole problem--as Spurrier stated--was a lacking work ethic.

If I may chime in here...I don't think that we have written our team off, it's more that we know they are much more capable than what they displayed last Saturday. We have all (speaking generally) been guilty of being caught up in the SOS hype machine and looking for him to be the magic pill to cure mediocrity.
We as Carolina fans are searching for an identity in the SEC for something other than baseball. We have taken more than our fair share of lumps as well as been more than faithful in the support of our team, no matter the circumstances. But these guys need to know that enough is enough. They are getting paid to attend school and their only requirement besides academics is to give it your all when you hit the field, whether it's practice or game day.
It ain't exactly cheap to get 4 tickets to the game and all of the other game day goodies that go with treating your family/friends to the day out to be given a less than 100% effort from your team.
I will always support Carolina, even when it seems hopeless...but, I would like to say for once that my team is to be respected and perhaps a little feared on Saturdays. Moral victories do not count towards the SECCG.
Perhaps that ass-whuppin and the SOS earthquake that followed is just what they needed to get it in gear. I will reevaluate on Saturday. Until then...

I felt the way you felt last year and the year before. We greatly underachieved these past two years. I have already posted that moral victories are useless.
But, if you remember, SOS has already purged our team. Some went pro. Some are now cons. Others have simply disappeared from our memory. We knew going in that this was going to be a tough year.
We simply got embarrassed on Saturday, and Spurrier is taking action. We may actually become a weaker team playing freshmen above upper classmen. All of us want them to step up like Tanneyhill and give us a story that we will be telling our grandchildren. They may. They may not, and if they don't, then we really can't expect the upperclassmen who we have been blasting away at this week to all of sudden become productive.
We may end up 1-10. I suspect we will be on a roller coaster ride and we will enjoy a few surprises along the way. But, this is not our year. If we begin to look for some silver linings, we may begin to see a glimpse of next year.
Let's put Alabama behind us. Hopefully, we can have a good game against Troy, and then, let's just let the season unfold.

Yes, and I back him 100%. Appears some of these are the same ones who have apparently NEVER worked hard. They are on scholarship, and having their way paid. Any fan can ask for 100% effort. If we don't expect that, we can hang it up, cause it ain't gettin any better. I guarantee you will see a different effort this week. Losing is acceptable right now, but not giving it all is not.

I thought he kicked off those that were not working hard. He removed several, and the whole world went crazy talking about it for weeks. The guys we have now did work hard all summer.
I think the problem is this: our guys have been pushing and pushing, working hard. After the Georgia game, they were spent, and they took that week off emotionally and physically. These guys have been through a lot and it finally caught up with them. Spurrier is continueing to push, which he needs to do, but there was nothing there last week.
Hopefully, this is the week they catch their second wind and they can play strong for the rest of the season. Let's stay behind them!

We had a bad game. We spent this week learning from the mistakes. It is Friday, way past the time to put it behind us and get ready for Troy.
I feel like fans should moan all they want until Monday, maybe Tuesday or so, then get over it. At that point, you focus on the new team.
