A comment on the title of your thread....GOOD NEWS....

Good news is:

A cure for cancer.
Discovering cold fusion.
An end to world hunger.
Peace in the Middle East.
A dramatic decrease in the infant mortality rate.

Good news is not now, nor has it ever been, any athlete from any school being told that he can get extra playing time because he hurt himself.

NEXT!

It is good news. And I'd like to think a cure for cancer would prompt us to describe it as better than merely "good."

Hey Reb, what is the definition of Vanderbilt in your Rebel dictionary? Sorry couldn't resist. :o

Nothing in the dictionary, but this from the Encyclopedia...

From the Rebel's Encyclopedia.

Vanderbilt \Van"der bilt\, n. [L. vandos or vandi = snot-nosed and
biltam = dweeb. prob. referring to vandobilti who were the
intelligentsia ca. 22 BC and in charge of the Emperor's reptile farm.]

Any member of the phyllum patheticus programus that periodically
assemble groups of senior athletes to confuse sportsfans and raise hopes
of continued success. Marked by their ability to win games over rebuilding
programs and programs coached by homegrown talent. The most salient
representative of the patheticus family is Northwestern University,
whose program produced 2 winning seasons between 1992 & 1998 and yet
hailed Gary Barnett as a brilliant coach.

During the period from 1992 to 2004 the two patheticus teams
Vanderbilt and Northwestern ranked 113th and 81st respectively out of 117
Division one teams. Ironically, during this same period, they ranked in the
top 15 of every measure of academic acheivement.

Researchers discovered two sub-phylla of patheticus programus.
Recent research has divided the larger group into the two sub-groups
known as Vanderbilt (patheticus programus brilliantus) and Kentucky
(patheticus programus moronicus). The primary distinction between
the two is that member of the brilliantus sub-phyllum are typically
well-dressed, intelligent students who eventually attend law or medical,
while members of the moronicus group wear clothing purchased at
WalMart and find employment in the fast food or farm implement industry.

Brilliantus tribal groups can be commonly found at Vanderbilt,
Northwestern, Duke, and Wake Forest. Moronicus families are
common at Mississippi State, Kentucky, UTEP, and the University of
Central Florida.
