View Full Version : Tennessee - how many do they lose?

Looking at some UT fan sigs....They really do have a rough schedule this year. All of the games except Miss,Meph, & UK could go either way. The Notre Dame and Vandy games don't look so easy anymore.
If UT is 2-3 going into the Bama game, a win by Bama at home could turn thier season into a nightmare. They will likely be a little banged up after the brutal early schedule. They really can't have any sort of let down until after the Vandy game.
UAB................W (barely).
at Florida.........L (very possible)
at LSU.............L (very possible)
Mississippi........W
Georgia ...........L (very possible)
at Alabama.......? (they are better than UAB)
South Carolina...? (Ditto)
at Notre Dame...L (they beat em last year)
Vanderbilt........W (could be close)
Memphis..........W
at Kentucky......W
Of course they could also get thier [crap] together this week @ UF and roll through the rest of the schedule. Very unlikely though after the week one squeaker.
Anyways, I think the schedule is just too tough for them to make it to Atlanta. This will be clearer after the UF game but at this point I put them behind UF and UGA in the East losing at least 3 games.

From here on out UF's schedule is no joy ride either. That's why I picked UGA to win the East.

My prediction before the season was 9-2...and I've seen nothing to make me think otherwise. Of course Saturday night will show us what this team is REALLY made of. I take nothing (good or bad) of the UAB game. I won't make too much out of the opener. Many people proclaimed TCU as this years' Utah after their shocking win at OU. What did they do???? Oh yeah, they followed the big win up by getting whacked by SMU.
Florida was my pick to win the SEC this year and I'll stick to that. Tennessee's just as talented, but have a brutal schedule. No way do they run the table!!

UAB................W
at Florida..........L (I think that the Vols will spot the Gators about 21 points and then run out of gas before they can catch up.)
at LSU.............W (Unless LSU figures out how to stop a pretty good offense. Unlike ASU, UTK has a running game.)
Mississippi........W (This will be Ole Miss's biggest loss of the year. If UTK drops both UFL and LSU, it may be the biggest loss of the decade.)
Georgia ...........W (Close, but at home the Vols win, USC showed that if you make Shockley pass, you can win.)
at Alabama.......L (I still think that Bama will have found itself before this game. With all the bad feelings between these two schools, there should be a bloodmobile parked outside BDS.)
South Carolina...W (SOS has made a second career making fun of Phil...unfortunately UTK has better personnel this year...and maybe next year...after that it could get interesting.)
at Notre Dame...L (This one won't be as bad as some people seem to think.)
Vanderbilt........W (This one won't be as close as some people seem to think.)
Memphis..........W (They may have to add an extra column to the home team's display on the scoreboard.)
at Kentucky......W (I understand that UTK is giving Cutcliffe a lift on the team bus so he can scout out houses for next year.)
Somewhere between 9-2 and 8-3.

I said 9-2 in the preseason, but I think I might have to amend that statement. Suddenly, Notre Dame is looking like a very good team. This was a game I thought the Vols would win, mainly because they have more talent than the Irish and it would be a revenge game. Also, I thought they would beat Florida, but it looks that as of now Coach Meyer has established a very good team in Gainesville, one seemingly better than UT. Neither I nor Volunteer fans can comprehend a 7-4 season, but it's very possible. Three losses seems more reasonable, so I'll go with that.

7-4 is not out of the question and would not necessarily mean that the Vols are a bad team. That said, barring major injuries, I can't see this Vol team losing more than 3 this season.
And don't you think we should wait to jump on that Irish bandwagon?? While the 2-0 start is surprising, both Pitt and Michigan were obviously WAY over-hyped in the preseason. ANYBODY who thought that Michigan was the 3rd best team in the country needs to share some of whatever they were smoking. Their defense has sucked for years, now, and Henne certainly looks below average. I realize that ND is the "flavor of the week", but they still have alot of proving to do before we can say that they are on Tennessee's level!!

She's not smacked me yet today, but I'm sure she will in due time. I'm due for a good smacking. :D
My son is doing well in Mobile. Thanks for asking. He's enjoying his senior year and his classes are going well. He's taking quite a load this term (Intro to Electrical Engineering, Differential Calculus, AP Physics, as well as several other classes). He missed 7 days of school due to Hurricane Katrina that he'll have to make up. They evacuated the school the Saturday before Katrina came in, and he didn't report back until last week (for classes on Wednesday last week). Luckily, there was very little damage done to the school, but due to power outages and gas shortages in the area, they couldn't go back for about a week and a half. Five of the days are being made up on Saturdays, and he's not too thrilled about that. A lot of the kids at ASMS don't go home for weekends, but he's always liked to come home at least every other weekend. With the Saturday make-ups, he'll have to stay there during some of the weekends that he would more than likely want to come home for. But he'll survive.

Of course the ideal scenario for most of us SEC fans that don't wear orange & white would be:
(4-4) UT battling (6-4) Vandy at the end of the season with the winner going to the Independance Bowl and the loser to the Houston Bowl :o
The last two wins for UT are thier only gimmies

While there are many games that look tough on the schedule right now, 2 losses is the maximum I see for the Vols this year and expect them to only lose 1 during the regular season.

Id like to stick to what Athlon Sports has predicted
They are predicting us to win every game with a * star by Fla and LSU
I would also like to think onm my own that we can do it and probably will. UAB is behind them its time to move on.. They learned from that week trust me. They have got that much more to prove now..
Fla is also predicted to win every game except with stars by TN, Alabama , LSU , UGA, and FS/Florida state

How can you pick UT to beat LSU and UGA and lose to Bama and ND. I just don't see the logic. What possible advantage could Bama have over UT, besides anger, which has always been there. Just a little more intense this year. And who has said ND was going to beat us bad. If UT beats UF, they will run the table.

Nobody picked ND to beat them last year did they?
Bama's got a good enough defense to make a game of it with anybody...especially at home.

Geeze dude, read the post.
I think that I was reasonably clear that LSU's defense has to grow up to handle the Vols. Yeah, it was lose in Tempe, but ASU couldn't establish a running game with Seabiscuit and Seattle Slew. Riggs may have had a down game against UAB, but I really don't expect that game to be the tale of the season for him.
The UGA game is at Knoxville and the Bama game is at BDS. Do you even look at the schedule?
As far as who said ND was going to beat UT, I'm not sure anybody said it last year when they marched into Knoxville and came home with a W. This year it will be in South Bend and I think ND will win another close one. My actual point was about listening to everybody sing ND's praises after two games. I don't think they are home free yet. If there is a pick I want to be wrong about, this is it. I dislike Auburn as long as Tubberville is there...I will friggin' detest ND as long as there are two atoms splashing around the cosmos.
As to your assertion that if UTK beats UFL they run the table. Go back through the archives. You will see that I have said that at least twice during the summer and oddly, I still believe it.

I did read the post, and it is still illogical. If UT can go to Baton Rouge and win, and beat a very talented UGA team, it seems logical they could beat Bama anywhere. Unless, of course you feel that Bama is a better team than LSU & UGA. If that's the case then we just disagree. As for ND, last year if you remember Ainge was injured right before halftime and our 2nd string QB was injured and not able to play that week. That left UT with their 3rd string QB,Clausen, who had never taken a snap at UT. His first pass was intercepted and ran in for ND's only TD. I think we will take care of the Irish this year.

After the way they played against Carolina I would take that bet. Are you sure you are watching the same teams I am?
As for paying off the bet, you can hook up your "house" to the pick up truck and wheel it out here anytime.
Please be advised that there aren't quite as many trailer parks out as there are in your neck of the woods.
In fact, we don't even have a "neck of the woods" out here.
But, park it anywhere...you can keep your mason jars and other fine dinnerware.
