Clausen ready for chance as No. 1 QB (http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050913/SPORTS0601/509130358/1345/SPORTS)
Chris Low trys to justify a two quarterback system as he gives Rick a chance to speak out. I'm of the belief that you name a starter and you do not pull him from the game, unless he is not doing the job or it becomes a blowout. I think Richt did the Dawgs a disservice, when he would pull an effective Greene to put in Shockley the past couple of years. On the other hand, when Greene struggled against the Vols, Shockley was the breath of fresh air that the pups needed. It will be interesting to see how Fulmer and Sanders manage the QB position this coming weekend.

I look for Clausen to win out and have a really good game at Florida. One thing that we've seen is that while Ainge can certainly lose a game for you, Clausen is not likely to lose for you. Clausen evidently comes to life in the heat of battle (a real game rather than practice) and does some spectacular things. He's smart and has terrific instincts. He'll help the Vols beat the Gators on their home turf and roll into Baton Rouge the following week as the starting QB, no questions asked.

Geaux, you know what has been going through my head since the Bayou faithful wants to warm up Bo Peep's seat? What would happen if Rick Clausan passed for 300 yards on LSU? Considering what the Tiger faithful saw out of Rick during his time in red stick, I'm not sure that Bo Peep would ever have a real night's worth of sleep ever again in Baton Rouge.

Man, you are right on cue! BoPeep would die a thousand humiliating deaths before the movers could get the truck packed! And the scary thing is that Clausen is very capable of throwing for 300+ on this ill-prepared secondary! Unless the secondary gets drastically better, our only hope is Claude Wroten and Kyle Williams, the two premier defensive tackles. And that might not be enough.

Clausen has acutally had better stats in practise then Ainge, so I was surprised Ainge started the UAB game.. Although I thought Ainge would have played better, he was a great lookin kid last yr. He had a player of the yr award

I was also surprised Ainge was named the opening game starter. Clausen is a gamer who just doesn't make stupid mistakes, unlike his brother. I don't think the noise and big crowd will effect him and the team really seems to be behind him, he's a leader. But if anything bad should happen, I still like Ainge. As young as he is he has already won some big games including UF & UGA games last yr. I think he's gonna be very good. He seemed to really be feeling the pressure coming into this year, with all the talk of him being just as talented as Peyton Manning. That just wasn't fair to him, but he will be great. UT was very fortunate to have someone like Rick Clausen to fall back on.

Yes I agree.. I hated Cassey, he made a lot of bad plays and was clumbsy.. Rick does make good desicions and knows the game and uts plays, hes mature and will make a good leader.. ANd I would not be surprised at all if Ainge does step back up.. Even our 3rd string QBs are good. I dont know how they could handle college paced games, but hell Rick was 3rd string now look.. Some people dont get starting jobs, but its not until they are put in the game when people really get to see them shine

lol I am watching the CJ Fayton vid now and as me and some others on here was saying TN did not show all there packages against UAB CJ QUOTE" They still have to stop the play, the indivdual players goin out there and makin the plays so were not really worried about that, we'll probably have a lil somethin up our sleeves for that" lol
See they didnt show nothing against uab. I dont believe we will be dropping balls against UF like we did with UAB and I dont think Riggs is gonna miss so many cuts like he did.. Damn I cant wait.. Im gonna go to hooters in chattanooga get drunk and watch this wonderful game in a wonderful atmosphere.. Although it would be better in the stands

UT usually struggles in the first game, they always seem to come out flat. We also seem to play much better when we're the underdog. I think UT does have a few tricks up their sleeve and I'm sure they'll be ready for this one.

UT does not usually struggle in the first game.
2005 UT 17 UAB 10
2004 UT 44 UNLV 17
2003 UT 24 Fresno State 6
2002 UT 47 Wyoming 7
2001 UT 33 Syracuse 9
2000 UT 19 Southern Miss 16
1999 UT 42 Wyoming 17
1998 UT 34 Syracuse 33
1997 UT 52 Texas Tech 17
1996 UT 62 Texas Tech 3
By my count, there are 6 blowouts on the first weekend, 1 game that was still a game in the second half but not in doubt, and three games that were close. I would not call that struggling most of the time in the first game. Some of that has to do with UAB being a quailty top 40-50 program and some of it has to do with lack of execution on the Vols part. The three turnovers did not help the Vols either.
Tennessee does play better as an underdog. They use it as a chip on their shoulder and use it well. The 6 point line favoring UF will help to create this perception for the upcoming game.

yes Tn has won PLENTY of games being the underdogs.. I thinki it was 2001 UF had a 17 1/2 point favor and they spanked that ass for them then, then 2003 I believe when we played Miami hurricanes they was favored by 14 I think then UGA last yr was favored and we won... We will win saturday. I read in the chattanooga paper today that Coker (Lamarcus Coker) will not go on the trip to fla. saturday

TO JRAMA....
Dude,
Aside from the scientific fact that the color of orange chosen by UTK kills plantlife and stunts the mental growth of pre-adolescent males, you just can't see it. In much the same way as the jerseys in the olden days were unreadable, the schedule you include in your signature is unreadable. (It also takes up a lot of space, but it's up to the Admin's to climb your ass about that.)
On the other hand, most of us don't really give a crap about UTK's schedule anyway, so I guess you can disregard this message.

Nope, Marshall was the second game of the 2003 season after Fresno State.

Now, back to Clausen. I think he will do well at Florida. He will put up some big numbers, coupled with the balanced attack of running and throwing that the Vols will bring against the "less than the best" Gator defense. (I know, I know... I should be talking, but that's another story.) Anyway, Clausen will do well and his gamesmanship coupled with Phat Phil's coaching clinic for DisturbinUrban will result in a big win for the Vols. The Vol's rush will hit Leak one too many times and make him resort to his well-known skiddishness about getting popped. He'll fall too pieces. Clausen will be the standout QB, making DisturbinUrban's debut into the SEC less than spectacular.
But Clausen will be another story in Baton Rouge. He knows the place, he knows the players, he knows the fans, and he will definitely be intimidated. Fortunately, BoPeep's style of D, as terrible as I think it is, will stop the run, making the Vols have to depend on Clausen's passing. Wroten and Williams will pop Clausen enough times to shake him, the crowd noise (it will be night in Tiger Stadium) will get to him, and he will fall flat on his face. Not a pretty sight for you Vol fans to contemplate; but that is Baton Rouge on Saturday night. Se la vie!
;)
