I'm new and have no idea the age group involved here.
just based on your musical pref, I'd say...

Where's_Demetris? - mid 20's or late 40's not sure but there's definitely some drug use involved there. Stevie Wonder & Neil Young....are you trying to open the closet door or what? lol

USC66 - Straight up old school 40 something rocker

rebeldude - who the hell is that tod agnew? you must still be in school.

jneesy- hmm kinda varied...25-35?

WayzUp - 20's

TigerFanatic - good choices. you must be close to my age. Can you see that hill up ahead?

OmahaBound - your all over the place like jneesy. Tool & Zep are cool but the others are??? best guess 25-35. your taste in music doesn't give it away.

Here's a thread that is a couple of months old where some of us published our age. Several of those you listed posted their age (as well as others you may be interested in knowing the ages of).

You do know that lyric was tongue & cheek, right? and that Ronnie & Neil were good friends.

1-Johnny Cash
2-Drive by Truckers
3-Dead Kennedys
4-Screamin Jay Hawkins
5-Son Volt/Wilco - I'm not taking a side on this one and there actually is a feud, but Jay Farrar and Jeff Tweedy are both excellent musicians.

Greatest Band of all time: Led Zeppelin
My favorite of all time (but not neccasarily what I listen to now)
1. NOFX & Rancid & Operation Ivy (they go together, trust me)
2. Zeppelin
3. The Clash
4. Allman Brothers & Skynyrd
5. Van Morrison (I've been on this kick since May, I'm sure it'll end soon)

BTW, Neil Young was an honorary pall bearer (sp?) at Ronnie Van Zant (Skynyrd)'s funeral in 1977, the lyrics in that song (a southern man don't need you around anyhow...) were satire, Van Zant was a huge Neil Young fan and vice-versa, there is a band that does a song on this, they are a southern band, I'll post their name when I find it, any southerner can appreciate their music....

You are way off on the age thing! By the way Alabama was never 'based' in MB, back before they got contracts with RCA Records that is where they played, but they have always and always will call Ft. Payne, AL home. I have played many times in their yards as a child, they are some of t he most down to earth guys you will ever meet. And please don't make me older than I really am!

Hmmmm, let me guess. Let me look into my crystal ball. Hmmmmm, I'd say you're still a very young lady. I'd say you're around, oh, 27? ;)

And on a side note, I live in L.A. (Lower Alabama). I remember spending a week at DeSoto State Park (Fort Payne, AL; The Sock Capital of the World) with my family in October about 4 or 5 years ago. We spent a week in a cabin at the park and it was beautiful there. I also remember driving around Fort Payne and seeing all the signs/museum/etc. about it being the home of the group Alabama. Although I couldn't say they are one of my favorite groups, I do enjoy their music.

I know what ya mean. There are a lot of so called "artists"(in the loosest sense of the word) that sell more albums than most others. A lot of record companies just get a person with a certain image, make their music, write their lyrics, promote their albums, and put their face on an album cover and sell albums. True artists are getting harder to find by the year.

Well somewhere somebody got their facts wrong! Randy Owens, Teddy Gentry and Jeff Cook were ALL born and raised in Fort Payne, Alabama. Mark Herndon however is from somewhere up North. Yes, they started their music in MB, but they are ALL from Ft. Payne. And anybody that wants to question that should get a fing clue! You are right. Give bamagirl the prize. Alabama played the bowery and got a huge boost down at Myrtle Beach but their home's in Alabama.

I have a CD I picked up in Teluride, Colorado called Scrapple. It's got like five Taj Mahal songs on it. He rules. Love his sound.

Have you listened to "The Telluride Sessions" by Strength In Numbers? It's a new sound they are calling "New Grass".
Sam Bush (mandolin), Jerry Douglas (dobro), Bela Fleck (banjo), Mark O'Connor (violin), and Edgar Meyer (bass)
One of my favorite all times songs is on there called "Slopes".

Not in school Tiger. Some of the groups I really liked in the past were Trapeze, Nazareth and Rush. Whitesnake was another one of my favorites. These were groups of the past, I now listen to mostly Christian music. Todd Agnew is a Man on a mission, check out the link I posted. Very talented Musician in his mid 30's Just release his second CD about 8 weeks ago. His first CD was Grace like rain (awesome Cd) and his 2nd CD Reflection of something is even better.

1.The Specials, The Toasters, and The English Beat are my favorite two tone ska bands
2. The South was right minus slavery.
3. To that chick who is a Alabama fan (the band), you are not a big bama fan b/c they were stationary in the 70's at the bowery in MB. Plus they friggin opened the ALABAMA THEATRE in MB in the mid 90's..

Whoa! Dude....I never woulda thunk it.

The Ska scene in OC is huge. Before they sold out completely and Gwen found out that she couldn't get over herself, No Doubt was the biggest act in SoCal. Once in the early 90's, we saw the Beat, the Bosstones, and the Skatalites at the Coach House. By the end of the night, all three groups were on stage with a horn section that looked as big as a high school marching band.

Seriously though Modest Mouse, Cash, Tool, etc.

A Mouse Man! Cool. Moon & Antartica and Good News for People Who Love Bad News are two of my favorite albums.

Tool used to struggle on the local scene out here until they finally hit the big time. One of the most bizarre bills I ever saw was Tool, Jimmy Eat World, and Dashboard Confessional... I did not go to the show but I thought that it was an odd collection of groups to play together.

I actually like Blink 182, too.

All I'm saying is don't go talking s--- you don't know anything about. I grew up with their kids, played at their houses for years. I know where they came from and they have never forgotten where they come from either. And they have never claimed to be from anywhere except Ft. Payne, AL. Get your facts straight before you start talking about somebody. If it weren't for Randy I wouldn't be where I am today.

Which is Gadsden, Alabama. Tell me, do you live closer to the polluted river or the tomato fields that were sprayed with nerve gas?

What the hell is that supposed to mean? Yes, I live in Gadsden, but grew up near Ft. Payne, AFTER Alabama came back to town. Went to school with their kids and played at their houses. And by the way, to the dude whothinks he knows more than I do about Alabama, nobody said they didn't get their start in MB at The Bowery, if you will look at my posts you will see that I put in there that yes they LEFT Ft. Payne and went to MB, but came back to Alabama after they got their contract with RCA. I have simply stated due to other people's ignorance about them that their home is indeed in Alabama!

Trot down to the local mom-and-pop and buy a gallon or two of chill. You are the one who jammed in with the f-bombs and slinging s--- around like it was the latest addition to coolspeak. Thought that you could handle what you dished, but that was obviously a mistake on my part.
I echo RW's comments. Not really much of a country music fan, so it really doesn't matter that much to me. However, the last time I saw Alabama, I think that they had a big fork stuck in them and a "Ho-Hum" bumper sticker on their bus.

That is indeed the most bizarre bill I've ever heard of. I had no idea Dashboard Confessional had been around so long. I know TOOL played with the Flaming Lips and Rage Against the Machine in the past. Those are two shows I REALLY wish I could have seen. And on that note I'd like to make Flaming Lips my new #5 on the list (whether you like what you've heard or not, I would recommend everyone listen to The Clouds Taste Metallic....it's not just my fav. Flaming Lips album, but one of my favorite albums overall.)

For all the TOOL/Zeppelin fans out there, make sure you check out TOOL's version of 'No Quarter' if you haven't already.

Also, make sure you check out TOOL live. All the songs sound amazing live, but you'll be surprised how some of the lesser songs on the albums become your favorites after hearing them live. 'Triad' might be the most amazing thing I've ever heard live.

And for a news update, the last thing I heard was that TOOL is still in the studio working on the new album, but there are rumors that the booking agents have started working on scheduling a European tour next summer....so look for the new album next Spring and hopefully a US tour next fall that fits my schedule, hehe.

Sorry for all the Tool rambling, hehe....I get excitable when I think about the new album.

You've got to mean "The Gil" in Berkeley. It's actually 924 Gilman in Berkeley, but even in the Bay Area most people don't know where Oakland ends and Berkeley begins anyway.

Yeah, the The Gil has been around for years. In fact, there is a whole circuit of clubs like the Gil around California. They will not book major label bands and they don't sell alcohol, so the age limit is 15. Greenday got started at 924 Gilman and they continue to dump money into it to keep it going. It's more punk than ska these days, but they still have alot of ska and reggaeton.

I was up there last for a conference and we wandered down to the Gil 'cos we heard a rumor that Greenday might show up. Instead, there were three Japanese Pop bands. It was kickass. I think I was clearly the oldest dude there, but there were a lot of punkers pushing 40 and 50 the pit. (I am far too old to venture into the mosh, but I like watching the legally insane throw themselves around just the same.)

If you get to Berkeley, it is 924 Gilman...down near the bay. The other great venue in Berkeley is Blake's. Saw Etta James there in the 80's after a USC - CAL game.

Well, I was close. Yeah Operation Ivy got there start there, every band from Lookout! records used to play there too. I"m a huge Op. Ivy fan, so I've always been enamored with that place. I've never been to the west coast, if I ever venture out there I would love to visit there or walk into the Epitaph records office and try to get some autographs/pictures. That's funny though, that you're 50, and you're at a business conference, and you head down to a punk/ska club, the west coast is definately different, I don't think any 50 year old on the east coast listens to what you listen to....

Actually, one of my best friends is a professor of biostatistics at UAB. When I taught in Alabama in 1995-1997, we and I used to go to grimey little clubs all around B'ham and Atlanta. We saw Morphine, Southern Culture on the Skids, The Reverend Horton Heat, Widespread Panic, Cowboy Junkies, and NOFX.

(The NOFX night was a real classic. It was in a small club near Buckhead in Atlanta. They were their usual rude, loud, onery selves when about 35 rednecks wandered in after a Georgia Tech football game. Fat Mike said "cracker" twice before the fight broke out. My buddy and I pulled a couple of barstools in front of us and the band never stopped playing. Never found out who won the fight, but after about twenty minutes things settled down and one of the GaTech rednecks was on stage with a bloody shirt singing to the top of his lungs with Fat Mike. Who says there ain't no hospitality left in Georgia?)

Believe me, there are a lot of old farts who still listen to kickass music...especially on business trips.

Yeah, I think I own 7 or 8 NOFX CD's (and tapes). I would not love music today if it wasn't for Fat Mike and El hefe. If you look on my original post here I put NOFX and Rancid #1, for me and for what they meant to me 10 years ago, I owe them alot, as far as appreciating and being into music...., I can't believe a 50 year old guy (which isn't old to me btw) is talking to me about Fat Mike, although he himself is prob pushing 40 or already there, NOFX has been around since 82....

It seems completely impossible to me that I've had 'I Heard They Suck Live' (my only NOFX record....though it is awesome) for 10 years and Nirvana 'Nevermind' for 15 years. I'm only 23 so I know I'm going to piss a lot of people off when I say this...but damn that makes me feel old. I know 10 and 15 years aren't that long in the scheme of things but it seems like just a couple of years ago I got those. Maybe I shouldn't have blacked out so much in high school and college, and I'd have more memories to make that time frame seem longer than it does, hehe.

Can't just be limited to 5 fave bands/artists, that just ruins it imo. Many already listed the groups I'd include in any all-time list, though growing up in the '60's pretty much burned me totally out on the Beatles & Stones due to the endless, repetitive playing back then on Top 40 radio.

When FM came online in a big way in the early '70's, true stereo LP's took over the market and LZ, PF, The Doors, etc. jumped immediately to the format and Album stations were predominant for a few glorious years before commercialization ruined them. Ah for a return to those times....

Anybody remember 'Jazz Flavors'? A local station carried it for several years back in the '90's and then it just disappeared, sadly. The jazz stations in the SE that I can get stick too much to the mainstream Top 10 and are thus boring, but thankfully a few college stations fill the void with a mix of old & new progressive stuff with a bit of the legendary tossed in and one has a jamming 2 hours of classic blues.

One group I've not read or simply missed seeing listed that would be a fun listen for most is Bela Fleck & The Flecktones. If you appreciate true musical talent and innovation, these guys deliver.

I enjoy listening whilest traversing the highways and byways so I have a rather ecclectic mix of genres to keep it lively. My collection dates back into the '60's and I've several thousand cd's recapturing the old LP's as well as the most recent stuff that trips my trigger. Have to admit that I'm not a fan of Hip-Hop or Country and prefer the earliest rap over today's mostly crap. :D
