View Full Version : USC beats Bama

Let the madness begin...lol
If USC can avoid the letdown, it looks like they will put it on Bama.

Bama's defense suddenly don't look so hot.

We're gonna make it three (3) in a row on the Tiders. Brodie "Matchstick Man" Croyle won't last for the entire game.

Yeah, we'll see...

I agree that our defense didn't look so hot in the first half. But once again, they really stepped up to the plate after halftime. If they could just get that kind of momentum going from the get-go, we'd be able to have a lot better field to play on for the entire game.

Our offense played pretty lousy after the first couple drives in the first half, and also started making some costly mistakes... which opened the hole for SMU to pull out to a big lead. In the second half, like the defense, they really stepped up and started making some big plays and big conversions. Like the defense, if they could just keep that going for an entire game, we'd be set.

We've still got a lot of inexperienced players on the offense, making it hard to establish the run very early. They also cost us a good many penalties. Once they get some of their mistakes corrected, we'll be a much more well-rounded team.

I look forward to next weekend though. It ought to be a good matchup. After seeing both teams tonight, I think it will be similar to the UGA game tonight and come down to just a single possession.

USM outplayed Bama in the first. Bama didn't step it up so much as USM just ran out of gas in the second due to lack of depth.

I at this point, I am still choosing Alabama over USC. Last year, the Tide would have given up the game against USM, this group seems to be willing to play 60 minutes of football.

I'm not sure that they can count on the grounds crew in Bryce-Williams to help them out though. ;) ;)

Croyle has had more than his share of injuries but he has also learned that he isn't Tyler Watts. His adventures outside of the pocket have been banished unless completely necessary. You'll see much more of the pocket passer Brodie this season.

Nope....

You're grasping at straws...

One thing, why do you think Croyle is such a good QB? Given the two (2) saps Bama has played so far, you would expect him to be ranked higher than 38th in the nation!!!!

Even UK's QB has a higher rating than Croyle. :D Then you have the nerve to critique Mitchell and make a comment about him throwing three (3) INTS.

Laughable....

Georgia fans aren't going to be happy with this but I believe Croyle is a better QB than Shockley. Shockley showed against USC that he CAN NOT throw the ball accurately. He made some nice passes but more that were off the mark and either the WR mad a good paly or it was incomplete. Even against Boise St some of those throws Shockley made weren't where they should have been (recievers falling down etc.). I'm not saying Shockley is a bad QB, because he is not, but Croyle is a better passing QB than Shockley.

That said, I think Bama will win this game. UGA attempted to pressure Mitchell and USC a little last weekend and for the most part it didn't work. I believe Bama will get more pressure on them because of their front seven (which I believe is 2nd best to UT's in the SEC). Bama has to keep USC from hitting the "Big Play" (play action WR fade from the I-form or single back set Spurrier always ran it about once a quarter).

Anyways...

Bama - 24
Cocks - 17

Here we go grasping at straws again. USM is a cupcake. They play in that weak-azz wanna-be conference called C-USA. They may have a better ten (10) year record than USC, but I think USC would be winning every year if we played Tulane, UAB, ECU and the other members in C-USA every year instead of UT, UGA, FL, etc, etc.

That argument is about as seaworthy as the Titanic.

Alabama seems to have a knack for suddenly finding a missing element three or four games into a season particularly when it comes to the running game. I believe that the game will stay reasonably close because of the number of Bama's diminished numbers, but I think in the long run Croyle is more composed than Mitchell and Darby will find a way to attack the line. Georgia outgained USC by almost 200 yards. I'm still thinking Bama by nine...probably 24-15 or something like that.

Bama sucks it up and goes home 2-1 (0-1 SEC) after being embarrased so bad the Bear rolls (In his grave) tide rolls.

Following this game Bama will have boosters willing to pay big ducks just to have the game end early (and to get a few recruits too).

Maybe you should go check the stat sheet. Bama got down 14-10 while only allowing 8 yards of total offense.

I wouldn't expect you to pick any other way.

Hey, I resemble that remark :D No doubt....I bleed orange...no way I can pick against my team.

I really can't decide who's got the better team between USC & Bama yet. I give Bama the edge in talent for sure. Coaching and home field might be just enough for USC to pull it out. I predicted double OT...that would be cool to see. Auburn plays both of these teams later so it really doesn't matter to me who wins....well I guess it would be to our advantage if the western conference team lost.

No worries....you won't hear a peep out of me Saturday. I promised to take the wife and kids to the Auburn game this week so I'm gonna have to Tivo this one.

So do Carolina and Clemson fans, as well as LSU fans, it's a way of life in the SouthEast. All this being said, the reason why I think Bama is gonna lose is because of SC's defense. Our defense will shut your pass down and score points, we don't even need an offense, so your defense can be better than UGA's and you can reason that you're better than UGA all you want (and I won't disagree) and you can say you'll stop our 1 dimensional offense (which very well could happen), but none of that matters in my mind b/c of our exceptional defense....

You've got one good defensive back in Ko Simpson. Surely you have to give Croyle enough credit to know where this guy is on every play. UT's secondary has Jason Allen, but they still couldn't stop UAB's passing attack.

What makes you think you'll be able to stop Bama?

Pull your head out of the sand. I think everyone here knows who's defense is better (Bama's against the run..probably about the same against the pass right now).

South Carolina will play tough and will keep it close, but Alabama's ability to run the football on the South Carolina front seven late in the game will decide the game.

you guys aren't very good at stoping the run after three quarters of getting pounding by Leron McClain, Tim Castille, Kenneth Darby, Glenn Coffee, and Jimmy Johns will take its toll.

I don't think they have 'weak" secondary. They've got one excellent db in Simpson. The others I don't know too much about. However, I do know that 1 db can't play all 4 -6 (base, nickle, dime) positions.

As a whole, I think Bama's DB's are the better group. I don't think there is any room for a South Carolina fan to argue about who's front seven is better. When you give up 250+ on the ground, you're in trouble.

You got any stats to back up you got the better secondary?

I got a stat for you.

South Carolina average yard per carry = 1.5 yards

Bama's Average Allowed rushing yards per game = 25 yards.

That's the difference maker right there.

And If you're going to give up 250+ on the ground to every team..that's roughly 17-21 points a game (drives aren't 100 yards).

That's a hell of a hole to put yourself in.

We may not need to throw the football more than 10 times to score enough points to win. Running the football kills the clock and keeps your offense on the sideline.

So if a Bama DB picks off a pass against South Carolina this week said tider could jump all the way up to a tie for 6th.

As for last year, Anthony Madison (the worst Bama DB) is on there in 6th.

I wonder which defense forced more turnovers last year? that would be an interesting stat. I also wonder which of the two gave up fewer yards, points, had the most tackles for losses?

i thought you guys were arguing over who had the better SECONDARY. most rational Gamecock fans will agree your defense is a little more well rounded than ours but our DB's are probably just a tad better. any ways remember these names. Jonethan Joseph, Fred Bennett and Mike West because our Secondary isnt just Ko Simpson.i believe our CB will have more INT's this year because the QB's will be too scared to throw Ko's way.

We have several advantages in this game. For one, we have already faced an SEC opponent, who happens to be in the top ten. Played em to a two point game, and had at least 4 missed opportunities to win. Two, we are playing at home. Three, we have Spurrier coaching against Shula. Four, these players have a bad taste in their mouths after letting the Georgia game slip away. Five, we have at least 3 very good DB's. Ko Simpson, Jonathan Joseph, and Fred Bennett. We even had a freshman WR come in and get a pick last Saturday. The Carolina running game will come around, it's just a matter of time. I am not predicting scores, but it may not be as close as some hope.

If you can't stop Bama's running game, your offense is going to spend most of the game watching from the side lines.

For arguments sake, lets assume that you and all you other cock fans are right and that your secondary is better than any other that has ever seen a college football field. If you're front seven is surrendering 5+ yards a carry to our backs, we don't need to throw.

By the way, SreamingTiger, being that you are a "Barner" and all, would you kindly explain to us just what a "Barner" is???

Auburn, Aubarn. That's my guess.

What to say, what to say... USC wins BIG!
Hey we let Vandy come back with under 2 minutes left, anything can happen in college football, and I like USC's QB!

Bama 28 - South Carolina 17

Your first comment about our having one good DB shows how much you really know about the team 'Bama is going to play; rest assured that he is just one of several solid players in our secondary.

Croyle's production will be directly related to how much pressure we're able to put on him. You can also rest assured that we will (SHOULD) blitz on just about every play in the first half. I, for one, don't think we've seen our defense play half as well as it's capable and I think we'll show up this afternoon.

I don't believe the Crimson Tide O-Line is good enough to wear us down; if Georgia didn't dominate us at the line, Alabama surely isn't.

I just can't get myself to worry that much about the Tide today...I see us winning going away & I will gladly eat all the crow the RTR crowd can find if I'm wrong.

I stick by my initial prediction:
USC 27
Bama 16

GO COCKS!

You're not comparing 'Bama's line with UGA's.....are you?

Thomas Brown dominated us...the rest of their backs weren't all that. You don't win by 2 mesely points at home if you truly dominate the line of scrimmage.

It's really as simple as that. Our D is going to be flying all over the field this afternoon...Croyle & Co. haven't seen anything like that this year & they better play the best game of their season or they're gonna get smoked.

Amen to that. I'm rearing to go. Let's get it on! Win or lose, hope everyone, Gamecock and Tide fans alike, enjoy the game. Both may not like the outcome, but we can both hopefully enjoy the game. Should be a good one.

I find it funny that the Tiders are talking the most trash. My advice to the Bammers would be to beat us this century, then talk smack. Not vice versa.

Their arrogance is nausating.

Ok, We beat you this century, Cany we talk smack now?

I took 2 bright spots away from this game now that Ive had time to think about it. It looks like Sidney Rice is going to be a star 2 years from now he'll be the best WR in the SEC! Last at the press confernce for Steve Spurrier the first words he said "Im srry we couldnt put on a better show for the fans." I proud that he actually cares enough after a dissapointing loss to say that. Lou would have forgotten us, or said a little sound bit to just show enough to care. Dont wrry SC fans were in good hands!
