The hogs were called for excessive celebration yesterday after a long defensive TD (player I think may have unstapped his chinstraps when he got into the endzone) to me it appeared very very innocuous and he didn't linger down in the endzone, spike the ball, do the chicken dance or anything like it - to be penalized after a really big play like that with just showing an ounce of enthusiasm is beyond me, when I have seen more excessive displays in 5 minutes of watching WVU and Syracuse today - someone makes a routine tackle and they wave their hand in the "no good" signal, they run over and shake their head over a player like "we bad" - pretty much spikes and wagging the head of players in other games yesterday none of these are called, and we do just a little celebrating after a BIG play and score, and they call it on us - it is just not equitable and sucks bad - the refs and the NCAA needs to be a lot more discerning on this - it really is not fair - what can be done about it? - The UndeHog

I wasn't at the game, so I'm not sure exactly what went on with that penalty. Although, I will say that I don't consider it a problem as long as officials remain consistent across both teams in that particular game. Different groups of officials will always be pickier or less picky than the next group of officials, I mean they're just human after all... It's not really fair to them to compare them to officials in another game, especially in a different conference.
To me, if it's Team A vs Team B, I'll be happy as long as the officials call celebration/intereference/etc the same against Team A as they do against Team B. Good coaches are familiar with the officials and the way they call games, and instruct their players every week on what the officials will be looking for.... and Nutt is a good coach.

I agree.....I just didn't know that unbuckleing your chin strap was considered some sort of celebration. He still had two more straps to take off if he was gonna take off the helmet.....ticky tacky.

It was a homer call.
