Also, Cade Thompson, a freshman comming out of Maryville is another Tennessee QB at SC.

So far, the part I was worried about is doing great (passing and Blake - 283 yards at half time). The parts I thought would do OK need work: rushing and defense to a certain degree.

Funny, did you hear Corso (the jerk) at half time. He said that with that lack of rushing we've shown in the first half, Spurrier can't expect to win the East. Then his partner asked, who said Spurrier expected to win the East? Corso is a dumb a$$.

As far as Spurrier saying UCF is tough, what'd you expect him to say: "UCF sucks"? You never downplay your opponent, expecially during a half time interview. Get real guys.

Well, 2nd half fixing to start. Adios.

I would be A LOT more worried about the lack of a running game. They may be able to pass, but if they can't run the ball, teams with good secondaries will drop 7 or 8 in coverage and shut down the pass. UCF is getting a lot of pressure on Mitchell also.

Btw, WTF is up with USC's stand up defense crap?

Yea, I noticed that too. It's designed to confuse blocking schemes, but it doesn't seem to be working to well.

Acually, I havn't seen it yet in the second half.

Rushing on both sides of the ball does seem to be the problem.

On the bright side, Blake and Newton seem to have a nice chemistry. I can see them being a good playmaking combo this year.

What are you talking about "on their way"? They are playing UCF, the same team that did not win a game last year...granted they have gotten better this year, but according to some of the comments on this and other boards, USC has gotten tons better with Spurrier. USC has not been able to run the ball. They have not played great defense at all, and they still do not have this game won with almost 7 minutes left in the game.
A team that is on their way should be able to handle the worst team in D-1 fairly easy at home. Also a team that is on their way should get better as the game goes on, not worse like USC has.
UGA still has to beat Boise first before we can even think about USC, but lets be a little more realistic with the Cocks Wayz.

Whew, hope you guys get your game on for the SEC schedule.... that second half was extremely sloppy.

I thought you guys were about to prove me wrong and completely blow them out of the water after those first two drives, but then it just seemed like the aggressiveness kinda died. And what about that second half? I think I saw Spurrier's jaw hit the ground after that last turnover. :p

Anyhow, on a serious note, congrats to you guys on your first win. It's always important to get that first W under your belt with a new coach on board.

Your offense looked pretty solid in the air, but just remember that there are many teams in the SEC with good secondary's that will be ready for that. I have a feeling Spurrier will really be driving the running game a lot in the coming practices, as it is crucial to having a successful split offense. The only thing I have to add negatively is the performance of the defense. It seemed like they let UCF make a lot of plays that should have been broken up. Ko looked solid, along with another player or two on defense, but as a whole it just didn't seem to quite be there yet. Good luck getting it built up and ready for some of the large OLs you'll be facing this year.

And again, congrats on getting that first win under your belt. It was a fun game to watch, even if there was a little bit of sitting on the edge of the seat in the final minutes of the game. :p

I think we're in for a season of games that will depend on how we react as a team to mistakes we make. That first quarter...that's what we all envisioned. Seriously, who watching that game can say they didn't think it was going to be a mercy rule game at halftime? Blake Mitchell threw for 330something yards and 2 touchdowns in ONE HALF. I don't care who it is, that kind of production is off the charts good.

I think our special teams let us down, I think our defense got a little too cute but could have slammed the door whenever they really wanted to. The game, to me, looked like a cat playing with a mouse and the mouse bit back. Or a bully who got punched back in the nose but sent the skinny little kid home crying anyway.

I don't care that our offense only had 15 or so plays in the second half. I don't care that we didn't run the ball all that well against a team that didn't win a game last year. They showed heart, we flashed our ability, they took advantage of a lot of mistakes, we played it safe, we won the game. It's coaching material and our boys will learn from it. I'm happy with what I saw...Mitchell looked like Phil Petty on steroids, for cryin' out loud!

Bash the final all you want, that game was never in doubt. And I stand by what I said earlier....you better come to play when you play South Carolina. That first quarter will be a frequent thing in the months to come.

Glad you guys got the "W," but I was having my doubts near the end there...thought the Cocks were gonna ruin my pick sheet.

A couple of observations about the game that I saw. UCF was completely flaked on coverage through the entire first and most of the second quarter. I seemed that midway through the 2nd that they suddenly were able to read the QB a little better and that he had a tougher time with the coverage. I don't know what O'Leary did at halftime, but they ceratinly shut them down in the second half.

The OL was very inconsistent. Sometimes they looked great, other times it was like they were not even there.

It was, however, good to see Spurrier back and taking chances.

Definetly need to work on the running game, Mike Davis had a good game but on interior lineman sucked a*s bigtime, but we get Freddie-Saint Preux next week and he should start so we should improve somewhat. Hopefully Spurrier will shove the importance of the running game down there pie holes this week! And whats up with the D man Thompson and Nix have got to get there act together, especially against the three-headed monster at UGA next week. Congrats to Spurrier and GO COCKS!!!!

With FSP coming back to help on the O-Line next week and Turman coming back to help the freshmen out with the running game I think that area will be improved. I think we could also see a decent amount of screen passes just to help spread things out a little bit since we are having problems running the ball right now. Our running game should improve over the course of the season, but I think the loss of Summers and Boyd may have more of an impact than any of us Gamecocks wanted to think. Our defense has to come together and we HAVE to compete for 60 minutes, regardless of the score. After watching the first game we have a little bit of an idea as to where we are, but I think we will have a much better idea after seeing how we do against UGA. GO COCKS!!!!!

Yeah.....and they will not be passing against UT, UF, and uh-ga without a running game.

And that stand-up defense is total crap. I agree with silver....worst thing I ever saw. UCF loses by 9....and it should have been 2 or 1 after two dropped balls in the endzone (at the end), which means the defense shouldn't even be thinking about unorthodox pre-snap positioning. Really, really dumb.

A few things I noticed at the game last night...

There seems to be a different feel across the whole stadium, I don't know what it was but something was just odd. I think it was because we could barely hear the band last night, it seemed like there was no atmosphere anymore. Something else I noticed is a really hot girl in a really small black tube top with a nice set of C cups. She was walking around in our section (10) going up the steps and that tiny top went south, there was about 8:17 left in the 3rd, wish i would've had my camera phone out then. For some reason I couldn't concentrate on the game as much after that.

As for the band, I wasn't that impressed with them either (from what little you could see/hear on TV). They just didn't really seem "into it" as much as most college bands usually are.

One thing, that to me would be awesome, would be if they brought out the band spread across the entire field to fill up the stadium with the sounds of 2001 when running out of the tunnel. That'd make the hairs on your neck stand up a lot more than hearing it through loudspeakers, IMHO.

Is it bad if I agree with you some? I believe it spoke some, not volumes. We are not a good team, not bad, but definately not good. But I will say this, on December 1st, UCF will have 5-6 wins, they are 2004 Div-I's worst team, not 2005's and I think you have the intellectual capacity/maturity to realize that. Rivalries and biases aside, I think someone of your mental stature would agree UCF isn't the team they were last year...
