While in circumstances like this, football does not seem so important. However, reading about the superdome and the refugees and all that, I can't help but wonder what will happen with regards to the Sugar Bowl, and the Saints for that matter. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Sugar Bowl in Atlanta this year. I was wondering what your thoughts were?

I kind of wandered the same thing but didn't wanna be the one to ask the ?. I guess it's not really THAT important right now, but I'd say they could have it in Gainesville and give Florida one of the bids...lol

Why couldn't you play it at LSU. It holds more people than the Super Dome and they have new luxry suites. It would keep the money in Louisiana. New Orleans needs it.

I thought of that. However, where are all of these people going to stay? There won't be anything in New Orleans and I don't think Baton Rouge can accomodate that many people if LSU doesn't get to the Sugar Bowl. I could be wrong though.

I guess it would all depend on the amount of people from New Orleans that Baton Rouge still housed. I think otherwise that BR could accomadate the people otherwise. I may be wrong though.

Definelty not going to be at LSU, LSU will probably be there and that will be a home game, even though its in New Orleans. Atlanta would be the most logical or Charlotte.

Houston would be a good choice. It could support the Sugar Bowl.

Gentlemen I hate to be a gloomy Guss .. but I don't think New orleans will be around to worry about the sugar bowl .

with more Tropical depressions just out of the gulf .. if it hits with any force at all .. new orleans is gone .. Mississippi will be fine since it is bascially wiped the coast clean already

I don't foresee the Superdome nor New Orleans in shape to handle the Sugar Bowl in time this year. Atlanta has the Peach Bowl in Atlanta, and Charlotte has a bowl game as well already. I am not sure about Houston, but the Astrodome comes to mind.

Yeah, the Astrodome should be in great shape after housing 40,000 refugees for five to six months.

I think the NFL is going to use this as an opportunity to showcase an NFL team in a non-NFL city with a thought in making the move permanent even after New Orleans is rebuilt enough to host games. I've heard they've already pretty much decided on having their whole "home" schedule at the Alamo Dome in San Antonio. The Saints have been more or less on the bubble of leaving New Orleans for years anyway; the NFL will use this as an excuse to get that done. Look for the Saints to move to either San Antonio or Los Angeles this year and thereafter.

As for the Sugar Bowl, I would think LSU would definitely be the most logical choice....I can't even think of a #2 option that would even really be an option.

If the Saints leave the state of Louisiana they are going to have to pay an exorbinant amount of money to the state. Come to think of it if they did leave this would probably help the city of N.O. out. I think the city of New Orleans would get an expansion team once they rebuild the city.

Another thing I just though of, what would all of the fans do in Baton Rouge? The game is January 2 right? What is there to do in Baton Rouge for new years? Most people would go to New Orleans but we all know that that likely isn't possible.

The same thing they would do anywhere that is not New Orleans. The N.O. is a one of a kind place.

Ok well, I don't think you understood my question. What is there to do for entertainment in Baton Rouge? What would people do for New Years Eve?

I am not trying to say that Baton Rouge is a boring place. I honestly have no idea.

We have bars and clubs and I am sure that there will be several special events for New Years. Baton Rouge just became the largest city in Louisiana overnight so with the amount of people that are already here we could not support an event as big as the sugar bowl. IMO the best place to have it is in Houston because it is still somewhat close to New Orleans.

Okay the Saints are gone from New Orleans forever, New Orleans was in finacial trouble with them before Katrina(they owed them like 10 million for 2 years!) so there going to L.A. probably in about 2 years, and wont get an expansion team either.(probably the Hornets will leave as well.) As for the Sugar Bowl, Charlotte would be the best choice besides the Panthers they have a little crappy bowl. Atlanta has the Falcons, SEC championship, and Peach Bowl so thats to much to handle. Houston or Tampa would be good as well.

The Sugar Bowl will not be played in Charlotte guaranteed.

WHY NOT Charlotte?

It's been in Louisiana since 1934 why would they up and move it to Charlotte when there are still plenty of places in this area to play it.
