LSU Chancellor Sean O'Keefe just postponed LSU's opener with North Texas scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Saturday. Major facilities at LSU, such as the Field House and the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, are being used to house and care for the displaced from the hurricane and the football game would seriously impede those humanitarian efforts. The game will be rescheduled later with the Sun Belt Conference in full agreement with O'Keefe's decision.

It's nice to see someone in high places has their priorities straight. Kudo's to the LSU administration.

Yeah, me too. Sucks for the Tiger faithful cuz they'll have to wait an extra week to see their team, but no doubt it was the right thing to do. I have a feeling the 2005 Tigers will be worth the wait.

I also heard they're using LSU's track & field facilities as a helicopter launch/landing pad for rescue operations. To me, using the sports facilities in the relief, rescue and care effort is something I would be very proud of if I were part of the LSU family; student, alum, fan or otherwise.
Any disappointment I'd feel in having the season opener reschedule would be gone the second I thought of how those who lost loved ones would rank that game in terms of importance now that Katrina has done her damage.
Thoughts & hope to everyone affected....being up in Michigan, there's a surreal feeling watching it all unfold on TV. :(

Thank you all. LSU is buzzing with activity today, housing and caring for the critical refugees (sick, elderly, babies, etc.) from New Orleans. Helicopters are landing at the Track Stadium infield, ambulances and other emergency FEMA vehicles are arriving on streets that were closed to the public and dedicated to emergency vehicles, and doctors, nurses, and volunteers are all working side-by-side to help. It is a sight that makes tears come to your eyes; tears of sadness for the refugees, but tears of pride for the cooperative attitude and strength and resiliency of the people of Louisiana. Please keep us in your prayers.
