Quarterback can't escape classic sack
BHM NEWS - Saturday, August 27, 2005
TUSCALOOSA -- Steve Beuerlein, a 17-year NFL quarterback, wonders why Alabama fans are so obsessed by the no torious hit that Cornelius Bennett leveled on him back on Oct. 4, 1986.
Beuerlein, now an analyst for CBS Sports after retiring in July, was on campus recently to check out a Crimson Tide scrimmage.
Alabama sports information director Larry White escorted Beuerlein to the Bryant Museum to show him all the memorabilia, including a picture of Bennett's legendary high-octane shot that knocked Beuerlein out during that 28-10 Tide victory over Notre Dame at Birmingham's Legion Field.
To answer Beuerlein's question, maybe the fascination has to do with Tide fans' love of classic defensive plays from their team, and maybe it's because the play came in Alabama's only win ever against Notre Dame.
Beuerlein is scheduled to work the Alabama at South Carolina game on Sept. 17.
-- TRIVIA QUESTION: How many players on Alabama's 105-man reporting roster had never played in a college game?
-- TRIVIA ANSWER: A total of 52 players (or 49 percent) of the Tide's 105-man reporting roster have never played collegiately.

The answer to the triva question I want to know is - How many of these players are currently being paid to play?

Hey man...no need to get jealous. If UT players stayed out of trouble they wouldn't have to spend their salaries on bail bonds. :D

This is one finger pointing exercise that a UT fan should never start. Just take a ride around Neyland Stadium during a UT practice and ask yourself one question, "When did the Cadillac Escalade dealership move on campus?"

I just read an article on ESPN.com on the Iowa CB Antwan Allen who punched an Iowa State student and broke his jaw. He was found guilty in court and will be sentenced Friday. He faces up to a year in jail and $1500 fine. Allen is quoted as saying, "I am horribly sorry for any harm I have caused and I accept full responsibility for my actions." While his violent action was dispicable, his taking responsibility is refreshing.
It apppears the criminal justice system is alive and well in Iowa but sadly broken in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Beuerlein, early in his NFL career, was quoted as saying something to the effect that that was the hardest he had ever been hit and that he hoped that would remain the case. RTR

Remind me to tape this South Carolina game, just on the chance that CBS will show the replay of Beuerlein getting his clock cleaned by Bennett.
Ohhh, be still my aching heart....

I don't know. I can still visualize you pointing one of your fingers (the middle one) at your Bama buddies. :D
