Have any of you folks heard that Bristol motor speedway is offering 20 million dollars to Tennessee and Virginia Tech to play in the infield of the speedway. I heard this morning on ESPN radio a little about this and was curious if any of you have heard the same. The capacity is 175,000 at Bristol, but I'm not sure how well you could see the game. They say they will build an artificial playing field just for the event. What a payday for a regular season game.

They tried to do this for Texas-Oklahoma in the Texas Motor Speedway infield but was never worked out. I would suspect a good view.

Well Bristol is a much smaller track. So the fans would be much closer to the action.

I heard about this on another board. I hope it works out, as it would be a great series...

It was all over sports talk radio in Memphis the other day, and Mike Hamilton UT ath Dir was at Bristol this weekend. I dont know about VT ath dir
The standard size running track around a HS field is 1/4 mile and Bristol is a 1/2 mile so I think you would most likely see fine. I know one thing If it happens Ill be there!!

I think I also heard them say that on average these teams get about 6 mil per game 20 mil would be quite a nice jump.

It would be a fantastic deal for college football in general if these two teams could get it worked out and play some football. I've heard that there are those in the Knoxville area who do not want to give up a home game to get htis game on. Hopefully, the crazy amount of money being offered can bring these two teams together.

I think this could be the start of one hellova rivalry. Can you imagine 50 years from being able to say, I remeber when. Who wouldn't like to have been at the first cocktail party, red river shootout, UT/UA, UA/AU games?

I just don't see it happening. That is a lot of money for both schools, esp Va Tech but I still don't see it happening. I think in the end strength of schedule will play a big factor for both. With Tech moving to the ACC and UT already having the SEC schedule they both are pretty tough. You just don't see many series that are non-conference games and both teams are perennial contenders/top 10-15 type teams. Florida-Florida St. is one, but that is obvious in state rivalry and that one HAS to be played (as should Florida-Miami)

don't even want to think about the traffic jam at that game if they pull it off.....traffic was a nightmare last time I went to a race there.

I do think it would be suitable for a game. That place is amazing. They just need to work on the traffic issue.

I'm not saying I wouldn't like it, heck I would LOVE it. I live about 10 mins from Bristol so I would probably even go (donning Gator gear of course ;) ) I'm just stating my opinion that it's just probably not going to happen.

College football needs more games like this. I think the SEC would greatly benefit from it too. If they can be the other conference's top teams on a regular basis then that PROVES that the SEC is #1.

Alabama has added Florida State to it's schedule, starting 2007.
