From DandyDon...
Matt Flynn had another great day throwing the football and JaMarcus Russell was throwing with more accuracy than yesterday. In my opinion, Ryan Perrilloux was not as sharp as he has been. At the running back position I am very impressed with Steven Korte who appears to be practicing full-time with the running backs. With the absence of Alley Broussard, I look for Korte to receive a lot of playing time in short yardage situations. Shyrone Carey was running number two behind Joseph Addai with Justin Vincent number three.

DaWayne Bowe continues to be very impressive at wide receiver as is Craig Davis, Skyler Green, Early Doucet and true freshman Brandon LaFell. As for the offensive line, Rudy Niswanger was dressed in shorts as was Max Holmes and Andrew Decker. Niswanger was demonstrating proper foot work to some of the younger linemen after plays. On the defensive side of the ball, I did not notice any players not taking part in practice. I continue to be very impressed with Alfred Jones, Ricky Jean Francois and Tyson Jackson.

At this time, the only true freshmen that I believe will receive playing time this season are Steven Korte, Alfred Jones, Ryan Perrilloux and possibly Darry Beckwith and Brandon LaFell.

Thanks, DJ. Here's a positive report from Coach Miles:

BATON ROUGE -- First-year coach Les Miles (http://www.lsusports.net/index.cfm?md=personnel&tmp=bio&personnelid=32&category=FB) continues to be pleased with LSU's progress as the Tigers worked out twice here in full pads Wednesday at the Charles McClendon Practice Facility.
Wednesday's workouts had the Tiger offense taking the upper hand during the morning session, while the defense responded with a better workout during the second practice of the day.

"It was a good (day) of practice," Miles said following LSU's afternoon session on Wednesday. "The team was aggressive and competitive -- just what we needed. The defense was playing well. They had a better afternoon. The morning was the offense's time. It's progressing and things are going well.

"Every practice there's somebody basically who makes a call. This morning the offense called the defense out. Then the defense showed up this afternoon and answered that call."

Miles said the Tigers are expected to scrimmage approximately 25 plays on Thursday with Saturday's workout serving as another scrimmage for the Tigers.

"This is a tough week and it's our second two-a-day this week," Miles said. "We had a short scrimmage yesterday and we'll have a short scrimmage tomorrow. Then we'll have a two-a-day on Friday and tee it up and have a pretty good go on Saturday."

Miles also spent a portion of his post-practice interview session to compliment the condition and the work ethic of the team.

"I think the fitness level is good," Miles said. "This has been a nice, long hot day, and those kids played hard today. They played hard to the bitter end."

The Tigers will wrap up the work week on Friday with a practice in front of the ESPN cameras and a national television audience. The all sports network will televise the morning session on Friday. The practice will be aired at noon on Friday on cable ch. 35 in the Baton Rouge area.

"It's wonderful exposure for our program, but it will still be business as usual," Miles said of ESPN's televising Friday's practice.

I'm watching LSU practice right now on ESPN. They look pretty good, but it's hard to tell. I wish they were scrimmaging right now. Then I could really tell how well they are playing.
