Highland Park quarterback Matthew Stafford could be sidelined up to six weeks after suffering a knee injury Tuesday, coach Randy Allen said.

Allen said Stafford, a senior ranked as the nation's top quarterback recruit by Rivals.com, suffered a dislocated kneecap when he was hit from behind during a voluntary workout.

Stafford is scheduled to undergo arthroscopic surgery today, Allen said. Allen added that the earliest Stafford could return is two weeks, meaning he might be available for the season opener Aug. 27 against Denton Ryan. Highland Park's first District 11-4A game is Oct. 7 against West Mesquite.

Stafford could not be reached for comment.

The 6-3, 210-pound Stafford, who has orally committed to Georgia, passed for 4,693 yards, 54 touchdowns and only 15 interceptions the last two seasons. He was named the MVP of last month's Elite 11 camp, the nation's most prestigious quarterbacks camp.

This is a very serious injury. I hope he recovers. I don't know if anyone has posted this yet. I perused the archives and didn't see anything about it, so I posted it....

That is a very serious injury. A friend of mine's brother dislocated his knee wake boarding and he's never been the same. Granted he's not a top flight athlete, but he is still hampered by the injury 2 years after the fact...

Thats very old news.

Anyways, Stafford already had successful surgery to scope his knee. He will miss his 1st game for sure and probably will miss the 2nd game also but thats about it.

If he needed it scoped, that probably means he tore the miniscus. If that's the case, he's many many many times more likely to have this happen again and it will take much less force to displace it the next time....not to mention the fact that damaging the miniscus almost always results in chronic inflammation. This is the kind of injury that middle aged fat-bodies brag about & refer to as "an old football injury." lol

My first question would be which knee was it? If it was his plant foot (right foot if right handed and vice-versa), it's almost certain to happen again at some point in his 'career'. He should also be very grateful that it didn't tear any ligaments...hopefully, it popped right back into place and won't be much of a problem after he heals up.

Nothing wrong with his miniscus. He is fine.
