DandyDon practice update 8-10-05...
I attended Tuesday afternoon's LSU football practice made up of true freshmen, several redshirt freshmen, a few returning varsity players and walk-ons. I counted 42 players that took part in the afternoon practice. Returning varsity team players that I saw working with the freshmen were Amp Hill, Bennie Brazell, Xavier Carter, Justin Vincent, Shawn Jordan, Keron Gordon, Jonathan Zenon, Jeffery Jack, Harry Coleman, Quinn Johnson, Kirston Pittman, Alonzo Manuel, Herman Johnson, Doug Planchard, Charles Alexander, Carnell Stewart and Marlon Favorite, if all the players wore the correct jersey numbers. The reason why I say that is because in Monday morning's practice Josh McManus, a 5’11”, 180, SO, wide receiver from New Orleans, was wearing No. 24, Keron Gordon's number. I mistakenly reported that Gordon was working with the wide receivers. Justin Vincent and Shyrone Carey have been rotating with the returning varsity players and freshmen.

During the afternoon practice, I was very impressed with all the freshmen especially with Steven Kortes, Darry Beckwith, Alfred Jones, Ciron Black, Kyle Anderson, Ricky Jean Francois, Lyle Hitt, Antonio Robinson, Ryan Perrilloux and R.J. Jackson, to name a few. I thought that quarterbacks Ryan Perrilloux and walk-on James Welker threw the ball very well. Perrilloux's throwing motion is picture perfect and he throws the ball 40 yards on target with little effort. As we all know, Perrilloux is also a great athlete who loves to run the ball and knows how to make things happen. Steven Kortes (6’2”, 230) is very impressive to look at and has all the tools to be a great player at LSU. Ciron Black is listed as 6’5”, 315 but looks almost as large as Herman Johnson. Darry Beckwith is easy to pick out among the linebackers, I might be wrong but I believe that Beckwith is a super star in the making. Alfred Jones and Ricky Jean Francois are everything that they are advertised to be. Jones and Francois were practicing as defensive ends the short period that I was present.
