This is absolutely disgusting. First, he sucker punches this kid, then they let him lay there for a little while. The punch is in the first 20 seconds.

Gotta love the total apathy on the part of the other people. I even more believe that the other football players were laughing at him now.

Oh yeah, it is horrific. He should have been dismissed. The whole scene is inexcusable. I'd rather see him out of the program for a year or so, only returning after meeting some very stiff requirements.

Even worse, the kid that got punched now has a metal plate in his face. Also, McDaniels only got a one game suspension (I think).

Two game with a retroactive punishment on all his classes during the summer. He also has to do community service and complete an anger management course during the school year.

I got the one game suspension from someone on a Tennessee board. My mistake. :)

Glad to hear this from you, FernandoMike. I've heard many other in Knoxville say the same thing.
I'm blown away at the apathy, that is just amazing, doesn't even faze anyone
I just can't believe it.....

Well, Fulmer takes a lot of abuse on this board, some deserved, some not so deserved. This case is awful and I am more pissed at him than I am at McDaniel. Things have quieted down on the hill lately, but can we really expect them to stay quiet in light of such a punishment. I know that he gave the team a damn good tongue-lashing a few weeks ago, but words don't mean crap if they ain't backed up by something.

Leave it to the Bayou. We'll punish that SOB big time.

I can't believe he wasn't charged with a crime for that. He went and played at the other end, for cryin' out loud. That behavior type exhibited right there is what they teach in Abnormal Psych as Sociopathic. I wouldn't want anyone I care about going to school around that guy.

I just watched it and frankly I am shocked by what I saw. It was far worse that I expected. That guy should be in prison, not jail. RTR

I'd been reading up on what McDaniels did in other threads, posts, and links, and trying not to form too strong of an opinion without knowing more about it. However, this video leaves little room for doubt. He should be removed from the team (permanently) and serving jail time for this. He doesn't even show any remorse after the fact (and no one else even goes to help the poor guy until well after he's been on the floor for a couple of minutes - and not much help then either). McDaniels should be ashamed, as well as Fulmer for blatantly minimizing the severity of this incident by the insignificant punishment he doled out for it.
Sorry UT fans (as this is not a knock on you), but this is terrible, and an embarrassment to UT and the SEC IMO.

Well said. I rag on Fullmer alot and have no love for him, that is well documented but he has reached a new low in my book.

Any feelings of this guy(McDaniel) should get another chance because he has not been a trouble maker before go out the window after seeing the video. I'm not sure who I am more disgusted in, Fulmer or McDaniel. Heck, I thought I was being fair when I said he should be suspended half of the season. The exit door to UT could not hit his arse fast enough. If there is justice in this world, then Goodrich wins a huge settlement against McDaniel. Absolutely disgusting.

First statement I disagree with on this post. T-mac is one of what 4 players at UT that is under the gun for hitting? 4 of 85.
DJ, you do know the definition of typical, right?

I agree - I can't believe all the other guys just went about playing with total disregard for the kid. That's just sick.

I'm kind of glad that I am an older man now and don't play basketball anymore except with my sons.
As a younger man and a player on the hurt kid's team. Another fight or argument would have been the order of the day!
What bothers me the most was that nobody seemed to care about the guy down....

I can't view the footage here at the office but just based upon some emails I've gotten from some Vols I know, the UT AD's inbox is getting pretty full.

Hamilton is going to be on a local midday radio program on Tuesday, it should be interesting. RTR

Just remember that the kid did go before a court of law and it was determined the crime was a misdemeanor (not that I agree) and Fulmer accordingly punished with dismissal from spring practice, summer workouts, the first 2 games and anger mgmt. classes and other retroactive activities. Fulmer punished him with regards to it being a first-time offense and a misdemeanor court ruling. The fault may fall with the university who only dismissed all credits from summer session and never brought him before a body of his peers for judgement of his actions. I do not condone Tony's actions, but I also think that he's been judged and sentenced and for someone doing something stupid for the first time in his or her life those are pretty severe penalties...especially since the civil suit is yet to come. We've all done dumb crap in college and this is no different really...I've seen tons of fights on the b-ball court or the intramural fields. Although, I've never seen the actions by the bystanders where no one assists the fallen. That's a little pitiful IMO. Either way, football season just needs to get here. UGA, USC, UT fans would all agree on that. Go Vols.

I hope that Fulmer's lame penalty was issued prior to viewing this tape. I also hope that the issue will be revisited in light of this new information. It is lousy PR to let the guy play. Everytime he makes a tackle, draws a flag, blows an assignment, etc., it gives commentators another opportunity to call attention to the incident. That is not bashing the press. It is their job. Anyway, neither the university nor the team needs more of this type of publicity.
