The State's Phil Kornblut this morning reported that Jimmy Clausen 6-3 190(the little brother of Casey Clausen) is interested in SC or Notre Dame. Coming for his second unofficial visit with Dad and brother Casey. He has about 50 offers: LSU, USoCal, Tenn, Miami, Texas, Fl.St., etc... Last season completed 227 of 300 passes  for 3665 yards and 57 TD's, and 6 int.
Does anyone remember another little brother named Ely?
"We are very honored that coach Spurrier is recruiting Jimmy, and I believe coach Spurrier will have USC real good real fast." Clausen's father, Jim said last week.
They're from Weslake Village, California, and he refers to us as USC! I think that pretty much says it all. :D

He's going to graduate early so he's looking to commit this year. I'm not saying we're going to land him, but he will decide soon.

I read somewhere eles that becuase he is graduating early he might be eligible for the class of 2006 is that even possible?

Yes, he plans to enroll in December 2006. That would mean he will be able to participate in spring drills and the spring game. Cameron Sexton did the same thing at UNC this past year.

Die Hard,
I don't want to burst your bubble, but there are two things you should deal with.
First, the last time a newspaper could be trusted to make a quote exact was about four years before Gutenberg was born.
Second, most folks out here do not use the full sobriquet "USC" The University of Spoiled Children is referred to simply as "SC" or "SoCal." USC is a "newspaper" term.
Still, good luck in securing Clausen...a solid QB in Columbia could make the Eastern Division very interesting. Hell, it would make the whole SEC more interesting.

Must get him!!!!! Can you imagine the UT/USC game now with Spurrier and a Clausen maybe the best rivalry in the SEC at that point.
Well,
I've heard rumblings on this for about a week. The other day, I made a few calls to my "Deepthroats".
All the USC fans here are going to be pleasantly surprised. :D

Hey, it's not a bubble, it's a game. If you think it's stretching to get excited about a great prospect, then that's your problem, not mine. My bubble is fine. Sobriquet? Who the hell talks like that?

In answer to your query, no, GAMECOCK FAN, there is no other USC.
[There IS a school in the southern part of California known as SC or Southern Cal, but they are a team of no renown and little heard of outside their region.]

First, I don't think it is stretching to get excited about a great prospect. Read the post, I wished you luck and even suggested it would be good for the SEC if you guys could get a good quarterback.
As to the use of the word sobriquet, quite a lot of people "talk like that." Does your question suggest that I should be embarrassed by my vocabulary? Interesting concept...oddly chauvinsitic on your part, but please feel free to take what ever shots help you compensate.

Thanks for the attention. As for "Southern Cal", it is true I have not heard it deemed this charming little sobriquet in years (you must be young). However, even in old top 20 (back then, it was not top 25), they were listed as such and yes, they were included all the time, with the likes of John Robinson as coach. It's nice to see them return as a top football power.

As it turns out, during a recent poll of the regular users, I am one of the resident Grandpas on the board. You are correct about the use of Southern Cal in the print and broadcast media...even in current day. But the parlance on the street and by alums out here is SoCal or EssCee. We too are glad to be back. I think that our wandering in the wilderness of mediocrity was good for us...we a much more focused than we were in the days of yore. Mostly, I think SC folks learned how to lose and admit that the Pac10 was never going to be a "Power Conference."
BTW, I notice you are from the Low Country...how "Low?" I was born and raised in Georgetown.

Thanks for the clarification and enlightening discussion regarding that.
I am as low as you can get, practically speaking, not far from Hilton Head, Savannah and Beaufort.
I am sorry I missed the "grandpa" poll. I was gone for a while but, hopefully I have returned for the duration.
