Big Ben's new favorite big target?

The Steelers had a good thing going when rookie QB Ben Roethlisberger and Plaxico Burress were clicking last year. They won 14 straight regular season games at one point and the Big Ben-to-Burress connection was a big reason why. Then the season ended and Plaxico finally made good on his word of asking for way too much money. The Steelers politely declined as did several other teams before Burress ended up trying to make friends with the 'other' rookie quarterback, Eli Manning.

Being a lifelong Steeler's fan, it was very nice to see the Steelers replace our big #2 WR with our big 4th Round draft pick, Georgia WR Fred Gibson. I'm not foolish enough to think Gibby will light the world on fire but I do know he's a good fit for the system he'll be playing in. His numbers may not be there but his teams' winning percentage will be and in a couple years, I'll bet he's a big reason it stays that way. I just hope he and Big Ben get on the same page QUICK.

A Georgia fan may be more qualified to answer this, but Fred Gibson has to show up and give it 100% every day and he will be just fine. It seems lack of concentration is his biggest deterrent. There is no denying his skills to play WR.

As long as the Steelers run the ball and Hines Ward continues to make the plays on the short crossing routes, they will win. Randle El will be moved into the #2 role and Gibson will battle for the slot position. Both are really just for vertical routes as Ward will catch anything across the middle.

Fred Gibson's problem at Georgia was that his heart is in basketball and his talent is in football. When the football team was working out and getting stronger the past 4 years, Fred was playing pick up basketballl games.

I think he will be a real steal for the Steelers. In Pittsburgh, all he has to do is focus on football. Nothing else. The kid has the talent.
