Ouch! If I were an Auburn (which believe me I'm not), I would call that a national championship. They went undefeated in the SEC and won the Sugar Bowl against a very tough oppenent. It's not their fault they got gamed by the system...

The system saved them from an another embarassing defeat at the hands of the men from Troy. So it worked out better for them, they got their feux national championship and a hayride parade.

I don't know if I agree with that completely. No doubt, the system definitely dealt Oklahoma an embarrasing defeat. But Auburn would have been able to hang in with them. I still think USC would have won, but it would not have been a blowout like the OU game. It would have at least kept me interested past halftime (which the OU game did not).

I personally don't think anyone was going to hang with USC on that particular night. That was a clinic on playing the game of college football. One of if not the best performances I have ever seen.

Unfortunately, though, it will always be a big "what if" of college sports. I'd have like to have seen it, but oh well...

I disagree. Historically, there are plenty of undefeated teams who never claimed the national title. The sytem is not perfect. There should be some kind of playoff in place so that teams like Auburn get a fair chance. Still, I think that it sets a bad precedent to go around proclaiming yourself national champs. What if several conference champions finish this upcoming season with one loss, two play in the national championship game and most of the others end up winning. You have the same situation, but only this time several teams have an equal number of losses. All those who win their bowl and thereby end the season with identical records to the BCS champion could proclaim themselves number one. I just don't like the possibilites. Advocate for change within the system. Don't wait until it screws you to declare it null and void. Auburn and anyone else would have proudly hoisted the Sears trophy and declared any other claim to the national title invalid if they had made it to the title game and won.

Actually, it's now called the ADT Trophy. :)

I have to disagree. I don't think Auburn would've stood a chance that night. They might've even suffered a worse beating than OU. I believe OU was the better team and deserved to be in that game instead of Auburn.

Is that even humanly possible? :D :p hehe
That was just a lousy game, and I don't know what happened. OU could have done better than they did, but they made it one of the worst NC games I've ever watched. It just wasn't fun for the fans.... unless your a USC fan I guess.

There have been blowouts in the NC game ala Alabama-Miami in 1992. What made the game the absolute worst ever was Ashlee Simpson's halftime show!

Lol, Yeah, as if the game wasn't bad enough already. Thanks, Ashlee Simpson. Don't do it again this year.
