This is good to hear. It probably burns him more than he's letting on that he didn't get the starting nod out of spring since he was Mr. Mississippi and Reed is a walk-on, but hopefully this gets the best out of both of them.

Is Coach Shawn Slocum related to the Slocum who coached at Texas A & M?

His son I believe, one second....you know it's not on his bio. But he played at Texas A&M and coached at A&M so I'm going to assume it is.

Yes, he is R.C. Slocum's son.

Unlike the prior staff, having the players compete for their position all the time "will" bring out the best in them. :)

Yes, Slocum is RC's boy. He has a USC connection, having coached out here for a while.
One other thing that will come from CEO's time with PC. Starters are determined on a week by week basis. Nobody slacks off and plays. Going into last year, LenDale was not slated to be the starter...Herschel Dennis was. He got his butt in a sling with the police and found the bench immediately. Twice during the season, he almost fought back to starting position, but not quite. He played hard every rep he got and in every practice.
That's what I want to see at Ole Miss.

South Panola has finished two 10 in the country the last two years going undefeated both seasons winning state championships. South Panola is about 25 minutes from Oxford and you see a lot of their players end up on Ole Miss rosters such as Jeria Perry and Jamarca Sanford (names you'll learn this year). Madison Central had a great run a few years ago.

I mean as far as state by state. I am sure everystate has a couple of schools that are nasty. Arkansas isn't known for their football but that one team has 5 D1 athletes on it.

It's pretty solid all around. There are some big teams like Panola and there's always a team that is absolutely great one year ala Brookhaven and Jimmy Johns last year. Even the academy ball is pretty good with D-1 talent from Jackson Academy over the past few years and Jackson Prep putting a couple people in the NFL.
