ESPN Gameday has announced that the Norte Dame/Pittsburgh game on Sept 3rd will be there first stop of the year. Here we go again ESPN drinkin the ND kool-aid you know Corso is gonna say "Norte Dame is back they have awaken the echoes" or maybe his lips will be to chapped from kissin Lou Holtz on the side! :D I would much rather have UGA/Boise St. because that will be a very entertaining game

I agree! Texas and Notre Dame have to be the 2 most over rated programs in the country!!!!!!

I don't know about Texas...they're a solid program every year, they just can't seem to win the big game when they absolutely need to. Notre Dame, on the other hand, is mediocre at best and has been for a few years now. When they win, they win on guts and luck (go figure..irish) alone...that and their defense just comes to play some games when you least expect them to. But their talent looks average at best, they've cluster-focked their head coaching spot (good luck, Charlie) and they've resorted to judging a successful season on whether they beat Michigan or not. The past few years, that one game is the one every Irish fan up here has talked about. The rest they just hoped to keep close. Notre Dame would have a hard time finishing fourth in either SEC divisions...they'd finish probably fourth in the Big Ten (11?), maybe fifth at best. And now they're young at both RB and QB....

I didnt know that a team in the NBC conference could play on ESPN. I thought it was against conference rules. The Irish take up enough air time without ESPN getting involved. Thats one of the things that makes me hate the Irish even more. You could have 2 great teams playing on any given Sat., and if they were playing at the same time as Notre Dame there would be one less channel to possibly show the game. Thank God for ESPN's Gameday Package, but its still the principle of the matter.

For an opening week game though, it's likely one of the best to choose from. Most teams have a pretty shoddy lineup on their first game just to break the ice.

There are rumors on campus that the Bama -UF game is slated to be a College Gameday stop.

On a technicality here, Texas is not over-rated...they underperform.

I think the Bama-UF game being put on Gameday depends on how they perform early on in the season. If one bombs then I doubt Gameday picks it up. Gameday ususally picks the game that will be most interesting to the entire country. Not just locals.

I could see the USC-UF game being picked up regardless just because of its tangibles. Spurrier vs. Flordia.

You're right, but I'm pretty sure they let the schools know who is on the short list before the season starts so that they can be prepared to make the preparations. If not, it would be a mad house at some places.

They never told SC until a short while before. We have had two games SC vs. UGA and SC vs. UF. And we didn't know until like a week before if that.

They do. The full schedule is announced around mid-August I think.

I'm sure there are the unexpected ones. But some games you look at at the beginning of the season and you know they have the potential to be a "game of the week" type. So ESPN contacts those schools and say "hey, just to let you guys know, College Gameday is considering the Bama - Florida game to be the host for that week. So if we give you call on Saturday night the week before, make sure you're prepared when we get there." etc.

How about Tech @ Auburn? That's bound to be a good game. I'm sure most would rather see that than ND vs Anyone.

Not surpising since the Gameday folks don't like the setup available to them in Athens. It is very tight and they like for the set to be in absolutely the most idealic location and proximitiy to the stadium as possible. Chris Fowler has been the most vocal about displeasure with lack of space at UGA, guess he shoulda been paying attention when El Duce Presidente Adams eliminated over half of the available close in areas and started charging large bucks for what was left.

they don't have to be showing the game, they're just there for gameday. although it's a bad choice imo. georgia bsu should be an awesome game. it'll prove whether the smurfs can play with the big boys

I think most people in the South East would rather see Auburn and Georgia Tech. However, Ga Tech hasn't exactly been good since the early 1990's.
Also, Auburn, even though they did finish 13-0 last year, still isn't the household name across America that Notre Dame is. I know you guys don't want to hear about tradition, but people love seeing those traditional matchups and even though Pitt isn't a traditional power house, they are on approximately the same house hold name level as Auburn and Notre Dame is well..Notre Dame.
I can see why they chose that game. Its the same reason they chose Bama-OU. Bama wasn't even ranked, but it was two teams with big tv draws and it had been an excellent game the year before (didn't ND and Pitt play an OT game last year?). JMHO.

Boise State vs. Georgia is another good one to go to over Pitt vs, ND. It doesn't matter to me though.

The teams being on gameday doesn't mean the game is on ESPN.

And the one who decided to hire his old buddy Jim Harrick to coach our basketball team when Dooley didn't want Harrick due to his previous encounters with the NCAA. Well, we all know how that situation turned out. Thanks Mikey.

Well, I've most likely got some SouthEast bias in this, but either Ga. Tech @ Auburn or Virginia Tech @ NC State would be just as good, if not better. And if it's a cross-regional battle you're looking for, try Texas A&M @ Clemson or Boise St. @ Georgia. Of course Notre Dame is a college football god. I just hope they fall flat on their face and people find out maybe it wasn't Ty's fault. Of course, I'm sure he'll get the blame anyway for "leaving them with bad talent". Maybe Washington will shock the Pac-10 and it will all be a moot point.

First off, NBC only has rights to Notre Dame's home games. When they go on the road, the Irish fall mercy to the TV deals of the conference the host team belongs to. It's like that for everybody. Also, GameDay was at the SEC championship last year, one game not on ESPN or ABC, but CBS.
That being said, I think there are better choices out there for the first GameDay stop. The best matchup that day will be at the Boise State/Georgia game. A & M/Clemson could be the best game that entire weekend. Georgia Tech/Auburn is another good candidate. They could have opened up with the National Champions at USC/Hawaii or they could have camped out two days early for Miami/Florida State. I would have sent them to Tallahassee myself.
It's obvious as to where they're going the next week (Texas/Ohio State). 9/17 could be a tossup, as you have Oklahoma/UCLA, Tennessee/Florida, Miami/Clemson and Florida State/Boston College that week. There are a lot of big Big Ten games on 9/24, but if Tennessee beats Florida, they should follow the Vols to Baton Rouge.

I see the Tennesse/Flordia game being picked over Clemson/Miami or FSU/BC.
