It has been announced today that Auburn has secured a commitment from Mario Fannin out of Lovejoy, GA. Labeled as an athlete, Fannin plays QB in high school ranks and projects to RB, WR, DB. Give credit to the success Auburn had last year on offense. That and word from Hugh McNall that they would give him a shot at QB wrapped up this commitment. Florida, Georgia, Ole Miss, and Tennessee were other SEC schools competing for this recruit. Congrats to the Auburn Tigers, it seems as if you got an extremely talented player that Borges will have no problem finding a place to make him a weapon.

Fannin wasn't offered by UGA fwiw. Mario is a good player and all but he's a mite short for QB in the SEC at 5'11". I went to HS with his HC and LHS is the top rival of my baby girl's HS, so I have watched him now all the way through his career. He should be a fine player for Auburn.

Not that you are wrong, but Rivals shows Georgia as offering and he was being recruited by Rodney Garner. If Garner was the recruiter, then I would believe that UGA wanted him.

He doesn't show up in Scout for Ole Miss (or Georgia) either. Rivals doesn't do a good job of actually showing if a recruit has gotten an offer or not. It just lists interest. Well I take that back, he cut his list down back in May so both might have been on there at some point but Ole Miss and Georgia haven't been in the running for him for two months.

I know that his name has not appeared on any Scout.com list of guys mentioning the Dawgs going back to the evaluation period for rising Juniors last year nor has he camped at UGA. It was said that he favored other programs over UGA and communicated such early on, again, something which isn't strange nor unusual.
Hey, a kid with his size and speed would be welcomed by me but he wished to attend Auburn. Best of luck to the young man I say.

We did offer Fannin. We never had much of a chance though.

Well I guess I'm glad he's going to an SEC school of a non-regular opponent of the Vols. Bottom line on recruiting at this time of year - it is hard to assess school's interest in players. Many coaches don't want to plunk down offers right away for many reasons. It is a subtle game of flirtation. They don't want to scare off other talent by offering someone, unless they think there is a strong chance the player might commit, and so on. It also saves face. "We didn't offer him," is an easy out when a blue chipper leaves your back yard.....

Fannin will get a quick look at QB.
Truth be known. My bet is he will end up at RB or safety. He was named MVP as a RB at the same camp that as a player Scout lists as the number one RB in the nation. As well as the other RB commit that Auburn got that same week. The Tate kid out of MD.
