Question for those who attend games at Williams-Brice. Why in the hell do I frequently hear rap (short for crap) music being blasted over the loud speaker by the pep squad (or whatever the hell they're called) in between plays. Why should my 80 year old grandfather who is a WW2 veteran, and who's had season tickets for twenty years, be forcefully subjected to hear Lil' Jon screaming "Yeeeaaaahhh" or some other god-awful racket throughout the game. Isn't this why we have a band? I consider us to be a respectful university and think we should try in every way to project an image of class. This is anything but. I'm sure Steve would agree with me, not that he even cares, or anyone else for that matter, it's just something that gets under my skin. So if anyone who is reading this can get a message to whomever is in charge of this type stuff, please put an end to this. This isn't SC State. Oh yeah, and male cheerleaders should be illegal.
Just another late night, Denis Leary style rant, courtesy of Where's_Demetris?

You know that kind of band performance is pretty awesome when it's done right. If you want to see it done right, come see Battle of the Bands here in Jackson. If you want to see it definitely done wrong, go watch the 300lb white boys try to dance on one leg over in Tuscaloosa. I almost died laughing at that one.

Don't tell Texas A&M. The only people they have step foot on the field as "cheerleaders" are the all male Yell Leaders.

I completely agree, when there's an actual band involved. This is just some schmuck blasting two bit chant rap over a PA system in front of the student section, who must be stopped.

Even though my tickets are next to the rival bands under th'zone, I always sit in the area right under the tunnel where the guys paint their bodies and I know exactly what you are talking about. The bald guy that was there for the past two years is terrible, but the music is played b/c of the 10,000+ students over in the corner. The university has to appeal to everyone, not just the senior or elderly, all the way down to the littlest of tykes. I mean, come on, do you really go nuts over cocky?

At our games there is the occasional music over the loudspeaker, but usually just like in the second quarter as the band is out of the stands preparing for their halftime show. There are a ton of fans (even the current college students) who really like the band, and most people really get into all of the songs. Like our football team, our band has always had a very good tradition at our school, but has not been quite as good in recent years.... but the crowd still rallies behind them.

It gets the players fired up and appeals to the more younger, rowdier generation.
Also, what do you guys have that obknoxious rooster crow. That thing sounds like fingernails on a chalk board to me. It just makes me wanna puke.

Personally I like the rooster crow....now. When I first heard it though "WTF?" But it has become something I like. Now the cheers by the cheerleaders, "Garent and Black, GO GO!!", that has to stop! I can still hear it this very moment. And it isn't the voices in my head. They won't the cheering to stop also!

There is no question that our band is totally inept. Our band director is a reject from Klempson. They couldn't march in a straight line if they were all holding a pipe. You can't hear them when they play at halftime. The band should and could be playing music to jack folks up. (Remember "Louie Louie"?)
I am a band alumni from '69-'72. We always got standing ovations at halftime. We played, yelled and supported our team throughout the game. I am disappointed and embarressed at what masquerades as a marching band these days.

Every school has a better band then us! When the other bands play at half time it makes us look really bad.

I think what was really an eye opener as to how bad our bad is when we went to the Outback Bowl 2 years in a row and had to watch how AWESOME the Ohio St. band is. I made myself watch the first year so I could avoid lines to get beer, but the next year I made sure to have a good seat. It was amazing.
