He starts off pretty good, then he gets a little wacko by putting Arkansas ahead of Bama, South Carolina, and Ole Miss. Could happen, but I'll have to see it to believe it. He might have the Barn a little too high, too.

Is there some reason that I should be concerned about what "Pat Dooley" says about anything? This is one of the more moronic things that I have read recently....except for my own posts.

Couldn't agree more, although the three you mention are going to be tossups for those middle spots IMO. Any of them could have some surprising upsets, but Arkansas this year will have to pull off a couple of miracles to earn the spot that Dooley gave them on this list.

What part of this did y'all not read?
Remember, this isn't a ranking of the conference teams based on where I think they will finish or how good they are. It's based on a number of criteria of the football programs as a whole - facilities, recruiting, the relationship between the coach and the athletic director, level of talent, the stability of the coach, the coaching staff, tradition, fan support, off-season problems.
Dooley will do his predictions at Media Days guys.... :D

Wow, thanks for pointing that out Colonel. I've usually got pretty limited time when I browse the new posts, and just kinda give stuff a quick glance-over many times. My eyes just went straight to the rankings. :p
I withdraw my previous statements.

You are right,no offense, but Arkansas sucks,Ole miss, bama, and USC are all gonna beat arkansas. And I would be suprised if Arkansas won 5 games.

...I wouldn't put UF above us. We have superior tradition (I am basing this over the long haul not just in recent years). Just as good facilities. Our recruiting base is superior because we dominate a talent-rich state...we don't have to share with 2 other powers. We currently hold braggin' rights and have finished above UF in the polls the last three years :D .

You have to remember, though, that florida has almost twice the population that georiga has. And not everyone recruits almost 100% in-state, like bama.
(not that i'm defending florida :) )

In my opinion they are getting a smaller piece of a bigger pie...to each his own but I prefer our scenario.

The notion that your recruiting base is superior because you "dominate a talent-rich" doesn't make a lot of sense. I think that it is great that you are able to convince most of the talented players from your state to stay home, but that hardly makes your base superior.
Georgia is the second most populous SEC state. I have listed populations below. You share Georgia only with GaTech. In essence that means you are drawing from a base of 4.5 million. (8.6 million/2)
Florida shares its population base with F$U, Miami, UCF, and South Florida (although I think that UCF and USF probably only count as one). So, UFL draws from a base of 4.3 million.
Tennessee shares with Vandy and Memphis = base of 1.6.
Alabama, Auburn, UAB and Troy (combine UAB & Troy) share their state - base of 1.5.
LSU shares with Tulane and the "Directional Schools" (again, combine the directionals into one = base of 1.5.
SoCar is home to USC and Clemson = base of 2.0 million
Mississippi is shared by OM, MSU, & USM = base of .9 million
ARK gets its state all to itself = base of 2.8 million
States by population
1. FL 17.5 million
2. GA 8.6 million
3. TN 5.8 million
4. AL 4.5 million
5. LA 4.5 million
6. SC 4.0 million
7. MS 2.8 million
8. AR 2.8 million
States by size of SEC recruiting base
1. GA 4.5 million
2. FL 4.3 million
3. AR 2.8 million
4. SC 2.0 million
5. TN 1.6 million
4. AL 1.5 million
5. LA 1.5 million
7. MS .9 million
Given this breakdown, Georgia has at least a 2 to one advantage on everyone but Florida

Arknasas doesn't get its entire state to itself. The Eastern part of the state is so far away that Memphis, Ole Miss and ASU can get their pick before Arkansas. We lose at least one of AR's top prospects to one of those schools each year. If you count Troy as half a school and USM, Vandy and Memphis as 1 school, then you must count ASU as at least half a school.

I agree but it was one of Dooley's factors in his rankings...did you bother to read his column?

Yes, that was the reason that I said it was moronic. It was sorta like ranking the top 15 boxers based on the color of their trunks, what kind of car they drove, and their mama's maiden name.
This was obviously a columnist with little or nothing or than a deadline to meet and an editor who is a bigger lunatic than he is.
I KNOW! Let's rate SEC based on size of the campus reserve, number of virgins, and total number of bricks in the south wall of all buildings.
Like I said....moronic, but then again I don't think that there are like a ton of folks reading the Gainesville Times...or Post...or whatever.

Arkansas sucks huh? - I have always had respect for Georgia (lived there 8 years) but you make me wonder - UGA may have trashed us in the SEC championship a few years ago (I know it wasn't even close), but you were dang lucky to escape Fayetteville last year and you know it - we aren't Southern Cal that's for sure, but we do not suck - looking at the 3 teams you mentioned will beat us, we beat Ole Miss and Bama last year and were a minute away from beating South Carolina - I guess those guys must all suck too huh? - the UnderHog

Ha-Ha-Ha
Guess I missed the BS part! How stupid! Like USCRebel says, we might as well count the bricks or the number of lakes on campus (and I think we'd win on that basis, by the way).
:p
